Is it wrong for zoos to serve meat as food in their restaurants?

I was talking about this with a buddy last week. We were talking about zoos and how people love seeing animals and taking pictures of them, some even allow you to pet animals such as goats and cows. However, these same people then go to a restaurants in the zoo and eat hamburgers. Seems a bit odd, don't you think?

1. Vegans are usually self-righteous losers. We should encourage the intake of meat to avoid growth of the vegan population.
2. It isn't odd to feed carnivorous and omnivorous animals meat at the zoo. Homo Sapiens is an omnivorous species.

Why would that be wrong? I mean, it’d be a little morbid if right after the alligator exhibit someone set up a cart selling gator jerky, but still

It’s only odd in that I can’t get a gorilla burger when one dies of old age

Not at all. They should even go further and serve some of the exotic animals up for dinner once they pass of natural causes.

I wouldn't mind eating some tiger steaks.

Why do they have to die from natural causes to eat them?

It's wrong to feed the lions and badgers meat also isn't it.

The zoo needs to make the turtles into vegans.

They aren't feeding you the animals in the zoo. Half the animals are eating meat too.

Not at all. After petting the cow the hope would be that they appreciate the burger more.

PS: TS I think this thread is weird.

So you don't find it odd to see your kid smiling as he pets a calf and then 30 minutes later is eating a hamburger and fries?

Because we hold certain animals to different degrees of importance. Get over it. Same with anything in life, there is always going to be different standards.

For millenniums we have ate chickens, cows, pigs etc. They are tasty, they are stupid (I know pigs aren't but again all they do is graze and lie around all day) and they are delicious.

Standards change over time and we are living in a new era. You don't think we should question things? Also, why does it matter if they are stupid or not? I still treat retards the same as other people.

How about people who grow herbs in their garden? They go to the trouble of watering those herbs, making sure they get the good they need to grow along with enough sunlight...

...then they use them to spice up their meal. Seems a bit odd, don't you think?
