Is it time for Lyoto to start cutting weight ?

Thank you ! I can't believe after 8 pages the majority don't understand what I'm saying !

I've explained the confusion. Look at your thread title. Machida moving to 170 has been a hot topic for weeks, why wouldn't people see this thread on the front page and think that that's what it was about? You're acting dumb but it's your fault for titling your thread so poorly.

I think everyone should cut until they all almost dead..... and then we can have Ultimate Auschwitz Championships.

Cutting weight is not the same as dropping divisions. I clearly state in the OP he needs to remain around 200lbs and dehydrate to 185lbs.

Lol, cutting weight goes hand in hand with dropping divisions.

And you stated your intentions clearly in the OP but it's the thread title that draws attention from the front page. Might as well have named it after Gus and Jones, it's misleading and you can't honestly be so dumbfounded that people took your thread title at face value.

it's too much for sherdog to read the OP ?!

Not at all. But is it too much for Sherdog not to make deliberately misleading titles and then bitch when people come to conclusions based on the very first thing they read from the front page? Nobody saw your thread title and said "Let's discuss Machida bulking up and cutting to 185". They saw it and said "wtf?" and "why does Machida need to cut even more weight?".

I don't think you guys are understanding the OP. I'm saying Machida needs to bulk back up to around 200lbs and cut weight to 185lbs the day before the fight. This is what Weidman and most other middleweights do.
So in other words, Weidman isn't actually better it was his advantage from cutting weight that made him win? LOL!

Fine !

Put a smile on your face! I'm not hating, just explaining why so many people posted based on the thread title as opposed to the OP.

I actually appreciate you pointing out where the confusion is coming from. I should have titled it "Machida should dehydrate from 200lbs instead of dieting to 185lbs."

the old if only he cut more weight he would be unstoppable routine. what was his excuse for trashing rashad. a bigger better wrestler. o' sorry i forgot rashad is a natural lightweight what about thiago silva one of the biggest light heavyweights in ufc. let me guess silva is a natural welter and would do better if he stopped snorting and cut to welterweight.

Water weight cutting IMO is one of the biggest advantages the wrestling based fighter has. Most other disciplines are outsized come fight night.

In the future big water weight cuts will become more prevalent with other disciplines but ideally [IMO] it would be nice if they were eliminated entirely.

His future success and winning has little to do with his weight cutting or current weight division. If he wants to be champion again his training camp should bring in a serious boxing coach. I've been saying this after the second Shogun fight. If he absorbed the fundamental skills of advanced boxing down he would be a sick, sick fighter. Imagine Machida bridging technical boxing into his karate and sumo techniques.

At his age it's difficult to add new movement into patterns which have been developed over decades. It could do more harm than good.

Maybe 15 years ago, it would have added another dimension, but I doubt significant improvement [To his overall game] can occur.

As a Machida fan I agree with TS. I like him at MW but he does look quite thin and weak compared to a lot of other MWs. Walking around at about 200 and then cutting for the fight may give him a little more strength and power we saw when he fought at LHW.
