Is it time for Lyoto to start cutting weight ?

Forget interviews - watch his LHW weigh in against Heath. Machida weighed in at 199lbs !

Why would he drop 6lbs more than he needed to if he was cutting weight ?

doesn't seem very consistent.

and it was years ago and heath is a small lhw so maybe this explains that

You Machida boys are chasing a ghost.... A Machida that is good enough to win a belt no longer walks this earth. Even Machida at 170 doesn't win the belt, 155 then maybe but 6'1 155 is stick figure Dragon.

I would absolutely pick Machida over Hendricks. Assuming he can make the weight that is, and I'm not convinced. He's pretty shredded at 185.

tbf he could be trouble for R3 if she makes the mistake of running into his counter left

Weidman weighted 204lbs when he fought Machida? That's crazy if true I had no idea.

Anyways I like Machida @ 185 he said he feels good at that weight he made Weidman go all 5 rounds for the first time.

His size wasn't really a problem at LHW; same goes for MW.

From what I remember he didn't always make weight @ LHW because of that and AS losing his title he dropped to MW.

Machida can do what he wants. , he knows what works for him

Why do you guys keep bringing up 170lbs ? I'm not suggesting he drop to WW.

Because of the thread title and the ongoing sentiment amongst some Machida fans that he should drop to 170.

Weidman's not the massive middleweight that people make him out to be. He could fight comfortably (and win) at 205 but the way people talk you would think he dwarfs his opponents ala Jones. He really doesn't. He was bigger than Machida but most of Machida's opponents are bigger than Machida.

machida vs hendricks/lawler winner

Saying that Machida gave Weidman his biggest test is a pretty meaningless statement since Weidman has defended the belt against exactly two people. The best you can say about Lyoto is that he's skilled at evading attacks and he did better than a non-prime Anderson Silva. The ugly truth is that after 5 rounds Weidman looked better than he did with 3 rounds against Demian Maia. Granted Weidman was not as good back then, but it says something when the alleged number 2 is not very dangerous at all. Weidman will be in far greater danger against guys like Mousasi, Jacare, and even Rockhold. Machida just isn't the same fighter he was when he walked thru Ortiz, Rashad, and Thiago Silva.

Machida fans will hate me for saying this, but I predict Munoz will be his last finish. He will only win by backpedaling and pointfighting like he did against Mousasi, and the middleweight division has caught up with him to the same degree that the lhw division did. Give Machida Bisping or Kennedy and let's see where he is truly at.

The Dragon walked around between 200-206lbs when he fought at LHW. His opponents were around 220-230 on fight day.

When he moved to middleweight, he went on a diet and walks around at 185-190 and fights at 185lb.

Here is 205lb Lyoto fighting 220lb Phil Davis

Chris Weidman was at 204lbs the day he fought 185lb Machida. That's right - Weidman weighed the same as what Machida did when he was fighting at LHW.

I feel Machida looks really weak at 185lbs. If he stays there, he'd be better off at walking around at 200lbs and just cutting weight like most everyone else to make 185lb, then be back to 200lbs on fight night.

Fighters are very strategic and deliberate with their weight. Moving down weight classes means you give things up, its not suddenly easier.

Machida chose to be a smaller LHW probably because of a speed advantage it gave him. When that advantage was no longer there or waning , he took a shot at WW.

Machida is now fighting guys who are as fast if not faster than him and perhaps more athletic.

Running to lower and lower weight classes wont salvage a career.

Gimme a break, Machida looked just as massive and conditioned as a goddamn former Oklahoma state wrestler and binge eater Mark Munoz at MW.

Weidman probably cuts more weight than any champ in the UFC. It's expected Machida would be a bit small in comparison.

haha Macheeta at 170= Lyoto "chasing the dragon" Machida

It's not really meaningless when you consider that Weidman has beaten every opponent he's faced without breaking a sweat. Weidman still won 4 rounds to 1 but Machida made him work for it.

Weidman also cut something stupid like 20 pounds in a week vs Maia. Of course he looked tired by the end of that fight. Surely nobody doubts that Weidman would have had an even easier time vs Maia with a training camp.
