Can't see how he cracks the top 10, he has lost 3 of his past 4 and 4 of his last 8. An argument that he cracks the top 20 seems appropriate.

You could argue that he is the 2nd best Middleweight, a distance 2nd to A. Silva. Losing to multiple MWs in his prime hurts his legacy.

A lot of fighters lost a fight by the age of 33. Aldo, GSP, Fedor, DJ, etc. I don't think Izzy is in his prime anyway, he's 35 and has been competing in kickboxing and MMA for 15 years.

Even though I dislike Izzy very much as a person, I hope this recent loss won't make people forget how good he was.
Only five male fighters in UFC history have more consecutive title defenses than he had. He beat a lot of very good fighters too. Only has 2 unavenged losses at 185 and they're his LAST TWO fights. I don't think I can name 15 fighters that I'd rank above him or whose career's I'd rather have.
I think his run at 185 was WAY more impressive than Alex's "double-champ" run. 🙄🥱

He's cringe, he's lame, he's an embarrassment men everywhere.... But he was a great fighter.

Yeah, I think it goes from the guys with a crazy run (sort those in any order you like):

Jones
Anderson
GSP
Mightymouse
Fedor

You have your double champs:
DC
Cejudo
Amanda
(Maybe Penn probably not Conor)

Then you have your long title runs and I'd put Izzy at the top of that list winning 8 fights with the belt on the line including a come back to reclaim the belt he lost.

LOL no. He was a one dimensional fighter in a very weak era of the division and yet still had many poor performances and even losses where he was bested at his own area of strength.

He can take the #2 MW slot for all I care (even though I think many of the all time MWs from other eras would beat him) because people put WAY too much stock in "# of title defenses" without analyzing quality but he isn't even sniffing the top 20 all time for me.

PS: This has nothing to do with his recent "downslide". I was thoroughly unimpressed by him throughout most of his title reign and it was PAINFUL to hear people act like pawing a few jabs at a LHW washout like Jared Cannonier seem like some amazing feat.

Thin Izzy was never my friend

Probably have Izzy somewhere around 25-30. He was good for a minute and went on a streak...but so have many MMA fighters. But honestly without the revenge KO of Alex, he might even fall to the mid 30's.

Look at his UFC career. 17 fights. 4 losses (none were close), 8 decision wins and only 4 finishes. That is not an all-time great's record.
Lol. Name 25 fighters you would rank above Izzy!

1. Fedor
2. GSP
3. Jones
4. Silva
5. Might Mouse
6. Aldo
7. Dom Cruz
8. Volkanovski
9. Khabib
10. Daniel Cormier
11. Usman (more for his work prior to the title then his work as champ)

These Guys I have a hard time anyone thinking Izzy is above... then the list gets subjective... what are we ranking... BJ penns wins over Hughes and Gomi are better than anything Izzy ever did(his best win on paper we was an Ancient AS... his real best wins are going 1/1 with Pereira and should be 1/1 with Whittaker)

The list of guys I would put around Izzy in absolutely no order at all.
Holloway, Hughes, Couture, Big Nog, Wanderlei Silva, Gomi, BJ Penn, Dan Henderson, Shogun Rua, Chuck Liddrell, Tito Ortiz, Rampage Jackson...

Israels record looks better than these guys on wins/losses and Championships... but... they had to fight way worse killers than Marvin Vettori, 38 year old Cannonier, 43 year old (and izzy didn't even fight him) Yoel Romero, and Paulo (can't win a fight) Costa ...

I mean shit.. even Pereira is actually really old and should be eyeing retirement but he is also in a super weak division where he can just strike with guys and never worry about a real wrestling threat (both Vettori and Whitaker are not offensive wrestlers for shit)

so I guess it depends on you... do you care about the actual opponents or just the win/loss and title fights...

I could probably fit him into the top 50. MAYBE top 40

But there is no option for that

So no vote from me

He’s higher than DC and Khabib for sure

I‘d put him late top ten to top 15

I have him right around that Mousasi tier of fighters. Great fighter, loses too many fights he shouldn't if he wants to be top 20, has impressive victories, but is not an all time great.

Probably top 20 or 30. I never buy the GOAT talk until a guy is near the end of his career. He could blow it like Andy or BJ.

Izzy still has time to ruin his legacy with losses and sticking around too long.

Its hard to put him the top 10 when he isn't the best ever in his weight class and there are guys that achieved double champ status.
