is Islam's record now better than Khabib's?

Charles got holes in his game too. He def aint submitting Khabib

If Poirier got one that deep, Charles would tap him in that position no doubt.

Nah it Charles was that triggered against Islam before spontaneously combust against khabib

Islam has a better record and is a better fighter than Khabib.

Firstly Khabib dominated a peak RDA, I still consider that his best win over Gaethje, Poirier and Conor. Secondly, Khabib only really struggled vs Tibau while Islam had fights early in his career similar where he arguably lost (Barnoui, Egoyan) and he got caught and knocked out vs Martins, then as champ he struggled vs Poirier and Volk. So, they're different careers, Khabib was unblemished and more dominant, Islam has a slightly longer UFC win streak and 1 more defense. You can argue who's got the better resume, Volk is a FW...and the rematch was a sham, Charles is Islams best win I'd argue. They both fought mostly lames during their win streaks to the titles and I've never been overly impressed with the guys they've fought relative to their own strengths, size and physical abilities.

Right now? Khabib is still greater. The Moicano win was whatever. Islam needs to do extra, beat Arman and then try for 170lb title.

Best take yet. Yep.

If Islam ran over him, Khabib would too.

See??

I don't think you're quite understanding here. Most people perceive Khabib to be the better fighter between him and Islam. And while I don't disagree with that completely, I will say there are certain opponents that would have more success vs Khabib based on the style match up.

And Charles would be one of those fighters because Khabib takes more risks, is not as good of a defensive fighter and puts himself in more difficult positions sometimes.

I am not saying Islam is better. Just that there is more a of a chance Charles would land a big shot or a submission based on how Khabib fights.

I don’t know about that.

Olivera probably a bad match up for Khabib.

Khabib doesn’t have Islam‘s striking.
Portier nearly caught Khabib in a sub. So can Charles except he could finish it.

Khabib would have lit up Oliveira on the feet.

it's not about how many wins you have
it's about how easy you make the fight look against top level competitions
khabib never bled, barely lost a round his entire ufc career

Unless he can go back in time and erase that loss, his record will always be worse than Khabib’s perfect one.
Diff. judgez for teh Tibau fight & Khabib wouldn't be undefeated.

That said, I personally only look at GOAT status in terms of what they did against top competition. Khabib's run against top competition would include RDA imo, but he cut his run off relatively short after that. If Islam keeps winning, he bypassez Khabib very soon.

At teh moment, I'm calling it too close to distinguish, & we have more future activity from Islam... so whether or not this exact moment in time goes one way or the other, isn't really a critical distinction I'm trying to wrap my head around too deeply.

When Khabib retired, Olives was the next in line and Khabib wasn't motivated to fight him. It wouldn't have been a competitive fight. Khabib cleaned out the division. There wasn't anybody there to give him a challenge at the time.
Why wouldn't Khabib be motivated to fight him? I get they are buddies, but they aren't teammates. Khabib walked thru the line of competition yes, but didn't clear out the division since him & Charles never locked horns.

& if Khabib felt like he was that much better than everyone at 155 upon him retiring, then he should've solidified his GOATness & moved up to 170 for new motivation & challenges.

They're comparable.

They have Tibau and Poirier as common opponents.

At the time, Olieviera wasn't seen as big a threat as he has since Kabob's retirement. He retired Oct. 2020. Da Bronx's was on a 7 fight win streak but the biggest names on his W list was Jim Miller, Clay Guida and Kevin Lee.

It would make an interesting match up but Charles wasn't even on tap for a title shot. He wasn't even in the conversation.

If Islam can wrap up 2 more big wins, I think his record wil be better.

as long as he has a loss on his record and 155 is full of 36 year olds khabib beat 8 years ago, no.

Knocking out prime Volk and subbing prime Oliveria is better than anything on Khabib's resume.

It also took Khabib 3 years to defend his title 3 times.

I don't about that. I think Khabib could come in aggressive and open like he did vs Gaethje and get cracked by a counter. Or gets submitted. If Poirier was able to get in that deep on a choke, Charles will put him to sleep.

I am just not a huge believer in Khabibs mystique as this unbeatable force. He had holes in is game and was fortunate he didn't face enough elite guys to exploit it. I think he was incredibly good and is the goat LW. But I think the right style match up beats him. I think Charles would get it done.

Chales has vastly more holes than Khabib though. It's not even close.

As champion yes. Overall body of work? Debatable. Khabib got some good mileage off of his W over RDA. RDA went on a tear after that fight

I think Khabib thought he easily beats Olives. I don't think that would've been a competitive fight. I also think Khabib is very smart and new his style wouldn't translate well moving up weight. Khabib probably loses against top WW's at the time.

Khabib's best win is over Cocaine Conor? {<diva}

This is true. I would argue that RDA was a big win for him too, due to RDA being a fckn beast during that time period. But nevertheless, Conor is practically Khabib's biggest win.
