Media Is Gaethje mentally broken?

yeah cte and humiliation dont mix well--ask diego sanchez--you think them both turning gay with their trainers is a coincidence???

It's a long list of fighters who have had that happen to them at one time or the other and many of them bounce back just fine. MMA fans are just by and large pretty damn dumb and love to cling to cliches
There’s just a long list of combat athletes who were never the same after a particular loss or another. Fighting is mostly mental, you’re honestly a moron for just discounting the mental aspect and pretending you’re so smart. These guys are just all men, all men have mental frailties so it’s a fair question to ask.

No, but his fans who thought he had some semblance of a ground game probably were.

I'm not discounting it. I'm just saying that fighters bounce back from loses all the time. Gaethje has already done it twice. Assuming this loss is going to completely derail him is the idiotic assumption in this situation, particularly since the guy who handed him that L just retired. The boogeyman is gone.

We'll have to see how Gaethje bounces back. Assuming to know that answer is dumb.

Nah. I'd imagine hes busy putting time in the mats. Hes gotta squeeze a lot if bjj into a short time frame

Asking whether Gaethje is mentally shook by the loss is not “assuming” that the loss is going to completely derail him. That’s why it was a question and not a statement. You just inserted your own interpretation to what was a legit and fair question and decided to get on your high horse and call others idiots. Read more carefully next time before you get high and mighty.

I've noticed that his very few media appearances since 254 he doesn't seem all there to me. Seems a bit run down and demoralized. I don't remember seeing him like that after the losses to Poirier and Alvarez, maybe because they were both close blood and guts fights that he did very well in. Almost seems like he's a bit ashamed of his performance against Khabib.

Then the news comes out that Chandler is fighting Hooker. Did the UFC offer the fight to Gaethje? And if so, why did he turn it down? Could it be that his confidence has been shaken and he needs more time?
No, because he's publicly anouncing who he wants to fight next all the time still, like: https://www.irishmirror.ie/sport/ufc/justin-gaethje-thinks-conor-mcgregor-23199577
Don't know what other media whatever you want, it's not like we had a Trumanshow of justin all year.

Though the narrative you created in your head is so imprinted nobody will be able to convince you otherwise.

These guys fight a couple times a year, we rarely see them as it is. live with it, you chose a shit sport to follow.

I believe he is. I thought he was laying low adjusting to live as a millionaire, but his mom is still working and not retired and didn't indicated he was going through major changes.

Khabib broke him. Justin has a good poker face. He hides his fears behind violence. But its there.

The way Khabib beats fighters is very emasculating.

He can still bounce back, have a great career, but yeah that loss was painful for sure.

he got fucked up asap tbh, how can he not be ashamed

Do you guys think Oliveria would dominate Justin like Khabib did?
I think skillset wise, justin will beat him. However, mentally, oliveira is in a better mental space. He has confidence. Gaethje is hiding. He's only shown his face once iirc and that's to do interviews with Helen Yee and Schmo.

Had he ran into gaethje that beat tony, Chuck loses. But gaethje ran into khabib so Chuck would be favored to win imo, he's coming off 8 wins. gaethje is coming off a loss.

I don't think those two losses weighed the same as khabib loss. In the eddie loss, he was smiling and saying he doesn't care if he wins or lose.

after the eddie loss:
I have to keep reminding myself that I lost,” Gaethje continued. “I don’t know. I signed up for this. I said it before, I said it many times, that I was going to lose (eventually). If I lost, I hoped that I would get knocked out. All of those things came true. I love the sport, I’m a fan of MMA, I’ve been a fan of MMA since before I started it, I was a fan of Eddie Alvarez before I started fighting, so just the culmination of events that have transpired in my life through hard work, through specifically hard work, it’s just, I’m happy. I’m happy for myself. I’m happy for my family. I’ve been trying to prepare my mom and sisters for all of that for a long time, so when it did happen, they were like, ‘Well, you’ve kinda prepared us for this.’ So it wasn’t that bad.”

Now contrast that with the loss to Khabib

No matter how much work and efforts he puts in, he probably knows he'll never be better than Khabib or beat him. That must be hard for a competitive guy like Gaethje who dedicated his whole life to that sport

What the fuck are you on about? I just asked a question. Justin has been in hiding for 2 straight months and he seemed checked out in the 2 interviews he’s had.

Doubt it. Match him with another striker and he’ll be back in his element. He probably cashed his check and is relaxing for a bit. Hope he’s still training though.

Its not only him. Its his coach too. His coach has been hiding in plain sight. His coach is all over UFC broadcasting but have not yet answered any questions about the fight. They were all over rogan talking about justin's secret weapon, the wrestling and no where to be found.

To Kavanaugh(Conor's Head Coach) and Mike Brown(poirier's head coach) credit, they went on podcasts to answer what went left in the fight against khabib for their fighters. Wittman who received a lot of praise is still hiding in plain sight. The whole team is shook by that loss. I can't blame them.

Exactly. The thing I can’t stand about MMA fans is the constant simping to fighters. The second you question any fighter you have idiots on Sherdog and Twitter white knighting for them. It’s embarrassing. Like Gaethje is somehow immune to being mentally shook by a devastating loss?

hindsight 20/20 ofc,but i much more have rather seen tony/ferg then this joke of a fight the way it went down after all the talk... gaethje got exposed hard and I dont understand how it was a surprise... a guy did great against d level competition with his jitsu/wrestling,but he never used it in ufc and when he did he got countered and couldnt do shit, but he shined against d level competition which made fangays to believe he had a chance.... so much of that ''dead zone'' comment...
i wonder if tony could've ended the fight this quick if he took gaethje down.probably not,but he would have had way better time on the ground when standing.
im sure his whole team feel silly now after all that ''ohhhh we are the one to beat khabib'' talk... what a joke of a fight that was.
even that horcher guy who was a stand in coming off some accident injury did way way way way better when this d1 wrestler who was supposed to be khabibs 'kryptonite'
gaethje did well throwing leg kicks and damaging khabib legs, but who the hell thought that leg kick damage is what is gonna stop khabib? even if khabib had no legs getting into clinch would've been enough to finish gaethje

If he didn't got broke when dustin and Eddie beat him..

Justin is very tough mentally.

Is that where the thread went? Simply asking if Gaethje is mentally shook? Please, son.

Khabib is different. We'll know more about Justin's mental health the next time he fights. I wish him the best. If he is super depressed about it, It sucks but Khabib has done that to everyone not just him so he shouldn't feel too down, but I get where he's coming from, flew all the way across the world with his parents to have his ass choked out on national/international tv. That's embarrassing. Again, I'm not harping on that guy, just putting myself in his shoes. He said he's been working for this since 4 years old, working towards a goal of being the best at something and for the realization that you are not the best and you didn't have any success really could fuck with your head.

Its not like the Eddie or Dustin fight where he found some level of success. He found virtually no success against khabib. Hit him with his best shots and Khabib just came forward. That type of loss could fuck with a fighters head forever. At least give me a wince or something. A window of offense to get my offense off. Khabib is like nah.

Like Fuck that relentless pressure it itself is mentally exhausting let alone the mental stress of losing a fight like that.

anyone who says otherwise is just fooling themselves.

We'll know more when he fights how hard the loss hit him and if he's able to come back from it. I think he should.
