Only thing I disagree on about your post is Conor was the one who not only asked for this fight, but got it under his full request. He got the event, the weight class, the opponent. So I think he is driving himself mad, trying to break his back to prepare. Rumor was that he hired a trainer to help with specializing in fighting bigger, longer-reach opponents. Dude's insanely confident in his abilities. Dana didn't make him do this.
So you can't see that he bit off more than he can chew by asking for the rematch?
I know it's kind of hard for a pro fighter to have this kind of childish mentality, but you just never know.
I'm just saying that self destruction/reality check is a possibility.
