This has always been a divison that struggle with needle movers but Moreno seems to have substantial fanbase especially amoung Spanish speaking fans.

There is a good chance he headlines Noche UFC 3.

The only competion I see is Muhhamd Mokaev and is Mulsim fanbase.

What do you Sherbums think?

Not sure what the social media metrics say, but I just feel like Mouse had more juice then BM or Pants, at least here in the states. BM is obviously bigger in Mexico, but that doesn’t really matter in the grand scheme of things. Mexicans aren’t buying $80 PPV’s or subscribing to ESPN+.

Regardless, none of the FLW’s really move the needle all that much. Mouse at least had the gamer following.

He has the Mexican support advantage. Could any past FLWs have headlined an arena card?

Respectfully I disagree with this part. The UFC just vuilt a 13 million UFC PI Training Academy in Mexico City. They wouldn't have done that if Mexico was very important market for them. There is a reason that Dana has committed to making the Noche UFC an annual event.

The company clearly wants to build there Mexican fanbase and more broadly their Spnish speaking fanbase. Brandon Moreno is not only one a bug star in Mexico but their Spanish Commentator that has to matt in the grand scheme.

Mm seems way more popular because he was so much better then every other guy. That's the only way to get traction at a weight class that jockeys fight in is win a million fights. I'm not sure why boxing gets away with those little weights but mma it's really hard to think of these guys as super badass.

MM was an incredible fighter but was a negative draw. His PPV numbers were really, really low.

Johnson is talked about more because he's a GOAT candidate, but I dont think he is really more "popular". Flyweights became more popular when Cejudo beat TJ Dillashaw which kind of legitimized them in the eyes of many fans.

Flyweights struggle to gain traction because the UFC hasnt focused that hard on making them important. Pretty much that simple. Boxing is just better at promoting athletes in general.

I agree with the promo part. Boxing though has the same issues with their super smalls too. It's like the sports don't want to watch these small dudes fight as often. Boxing is like 116 and mma seems to be 135 for the bare min

Has more to do with demographics than it does them being small. Millions of people still watch Kenshiro Teraji, it's just that he is promoted in Japan. Many of the champs of the small classes are Japanese or Thai and what not, thus their shows are focused in Asia.

His popularity increased over time. UFC and most of its fans did not realize what they had until he was gone.
I think it's more respect than it is popularity.

To use a basketball reference, someone like Tim Duncan is not very popular, but it'd be difficult to talk about the best basketball players of all time without mentioning him in some type of positive light. I think DJ is something close to that.

Tim Duncan is a much more respected and higher rated player among serious circles in basketball than say Vince Carter or Allen Iverson, but I dont think it'd necessarily be incorrect to say he is less popular than them.

Older equivalent would be Kareem Abdul Jabar vs Bird/Magic.
