Is Ben Askren's hip why his striking sucks?

You may think you have decent boxing fundamentals TS, but that would go out the window in an instant in an actual fight where you have to defend yourself from a guy trying to kill you while still somehow integrating your offense. It's a whole different thing, I'm sure Ben's striking looks alright when he's hitting mits. He's just never really used it much in a fight so it never advanced at all.
A lot of people hit mits wrong or don't know how to bring their training into actual fighting when it comes to striking. That's why you have a lot of fighters doing mit work but when they are fighting don't throw any strikes or throw any of the combinations they are working on. I see it all the time from training footage they post up constantly on their social media and their actual recent fights. I see it from multiple fighters and multiple trainers. They look good striking on mits but not actual striking in fights. There's a disconnect between their striking training, and actual striking fighting.

His striking always was mediocre at best even in bush leagues he used to “dominate” , and it’s hard to improve on your weaknesses, when there is no one to expose them. His UFC run was nosedive and rightfully so, one dimensional bums aren’t needed in this sport

Bellator and ONE are bush league ??? Give your frickin head a shake

I trained MMA casually.. I was one of the most unathletic people in graduation year. I swear to god I had better striking especially boxing than Ben Askren after a month. Just a month of repeating the basics, like how to throw a jab/ cross/ hook, how to put them into a 1 2 3, etc.

Ben Askren can't throw a jab or a cross. He can't throw a hook. Instead, he just kinda turns his body awkwardly into whatever the fuck he's doing.

But..
How A Hip Replacement Surgery Helped Ben Askren Cure His Back Issues
Ben Askren had to declare an early retirement from the sport of MMA last year after losing to Demian Maia. After his loss to Jorge Masvidal, Askren had lost all the momentum of his early UFC promise.

“It’s called the Birmingham hip. What they do is they get it all cleaned up. They cap the top right off and the bone goes into the socket, so they cap the top of it and they clean up the inside and put some on the inside. I am pain free.

What if.. he's just physically incapable of rotating his body into chaining his kinetic energy into strikes?

I don't think he is really intending to hurt anybody with those strikes. He is just trying to setup takedowns or be unpredictable.

Absolutely not. He had bad striking because he was arrogant and didn't feel that he had to train in other aspects of mma because of his wrestling skill. Once he faced actual competition, he found out that he was incorrect. He probably could have had respectable striking if he was more willing to adapt earlier on in his career but again, attitude was his downfall... not a hip injury

His striking is bad because he is slow twitch dominant, he isn't that explosive. It makes him slow.

He is a lot like Nick Diaz, both have great cardio and toughness, Nick has high skill bjj/boxing and Askren has high skill wrestling but both of them just lack explosiveness which makes them slow. But because both of them have very good conditioning and toughness, they can wear guys down and break them.

Askren's striking sucks because he spent the majority of his career crushing no-name asian cans and it made him feel invincible

I don't think so. Sean Sherk's hips were so bad he couldn't even shoot towards the end of his career but his striking was still fluid.

I don't think a hip replacement can ever improve your mobility, though I think it probably has helped in terms of pain and maybe stability.

That is likely part of the reason, but I think the bigger reason was being too arrogant to develop his game.

Its kinda the MO of his gym. They excell at what their strenght is and never really develop on their weaknesses. Askren from the beginning was the big shit at Roufus and soon grappling coach. He just never had the attitude to work on his striking . I mean its fine as he has fantastic scrambling and ground game ability. Maia is the best example of what is possible if you really want to.

I'm sure sherdogees will find a way to make you seem ridiculous, but yes. I think its a good working theory.

It def held him back. Any person that has thrown a strike knows how important the hips are. A lot of people hate Askren to the point of incoherence so there prob wont be many people to agree with that.

Im not sure it held him back enough to have been a KO artist tho. He trained at one of the best striking camps and he never grew the way it was expected. He still woukd have used better striking just to set up his wrestling.

We'll, I guess a dodgy hip isn't going to help...

It would be great if between his Birmingham hip and training to box Jake Paul, he developed a mean overhand (the A-bomb) and came back to mma KOing people stiff

After you learned a jab, cross, hook you learned to apply them to a 1, 2, 3?

They are the same thing buddy.
