I know he comes from Ossetia but there are a few ethnic groups there.
Ossetians are very interesting IMO:
- top brass in wrestling and judo
- descendants from the Scyths (antique step people with a death cult)
- a third of them still have their ancestral pagan religion
- only Iranian family language spoken in Europe. I think that Ossetians can understand Persian and Kurdish for example.

Discuss. @RichardHarrow this could be interesting for you.

You've really piqued my interest in this @KBE6EKCTAH_CCP . I thought theres no way theres going to be any semblance of it being close to the Kurdish language ( one dialect of Kurdish sounds very different to another) but a quick listen to Ossetian languages on youtube and it does audibly sound very similar. I can make out few words but it's the intonations during a lot of the vowel sounds that closely resembles some of the audibles. Good find!

I knew this thread would be to your liking good sir.

Ossetians tend to be proud Christians as well. Artur Taymazov was a 3x Olympic gold medalist in freestyle before popping for PEDs. Shavkats wrestling coach is Ossetian and he takes him and others from Dar to train with their team which includes an Olympic gold medalist (forget the guys name, there was footage I found of them hitting the mats together down a rabbithole before).

Even Tuvans and Sakha republic have produced world champions and Olympic medalists in Russia. It's why they often say that "The Ivan Yarygin is the toughest tournament in wrestling" because while it's not the Olympics...every region of Russia gets to elect their best guy to compete so you get guys from Alania North Ossetia, South Ossetia, Chechnya, Ingushetia, Kabardino, Dagestan, Tuva, Sakha, Siberia, Tatarstan, Oblast etc. And then they will send out invites to some top foreigners. So an American like Kyle Snyder who's won it multiple times showed up and smashed through all the best Russians to grab gold...insanely impressive.

i was thinking about that, the name sounds dagi but his face is very.. merabian
most ossetians are christian, but he could be a minority

do ethinic slav russians have any relevant wrestlers? seems that they had a lot until the fall of the soviet union, but not that many after karelin retired

Way to dissect this dudes nationality

Will this help us decide how much JBG he has?

Why save the thread? Because a couple of hillbillies who have absolutely no clue where Ossetia is on the map are saying they don t care?
It was a poor post, that I nearly deleted a moment after posting it. The intent really was just to appreciate the lady's aesthetic using an old trope.

It is a great thread really, and the kind of one I really like. From reading about the death cult as described by Herodotus, to leaning about the ethnic make up of Ossetia - I really love it.
