Is ANYONE actually gonna buy the PPV because of CM Punk?

Sometimes it's just for the spectacle itself.

And yes as a former wwe fan, I would (and did with Ronda) take a peek at their segment for fun.

I usually stream ufc ppvs, but would buy it this time just for Punk because he's best in the world!

We’ll never be able to prove this argument either way, so I’m not sure it matters. But I bet he attracts anywhere from 15%-35% more PPV buys. Possibly even more. We all know he’s going to lose, but casuals don’t have as much knowledge of the sport so they think he stands a small chance.

How do they not know, though? It doesn’t take any effort to go on Wikipedia to see he lost in like 2 minutes. You don’t even have to see the fight.

I feel like you guys aren’t giving the average casual enough credit. But then again, maybe I’m giving them too much. Idk. I like to believe.....

There is an entire wrestling sub-forum on this site that may have a different opinion.

I’m not a wwe fan. I haven’t watched a single wrestling match since middle school. That being said, I seriously have like 8 friends who want to watch the card for that reason alone

Casuals are the target audience and that is who will be buying PPV's because of CM Punk.

People who are saying this are dead wrong. Casuals, by definition, are people who are “casually” interested in mma, meaning they will watch if there is a big card or big star, and many of them are ex-fans from the Golden Era who will now only tune in when the legends fight (which is why Tito and Chuck will still pull huge numbers). Most casual mma fans have no idea who CM Punk is. CM Punk is there to get hardcore wrestling fans to the buy the PPV who want to see their former superstar in real fighting action. They came through in DROVES for Brock, and UFC is gambling they can get some success with Punk.

It’s a gamble though, and I agree with TS in that I don’t think it will work. Partly because, as TS mentioned, Punk isn’t a beast like Brock, which was easy to market. But also we just live in a different era now. When Brock was in UFC was peaking.

I wouldn't discount the possibility that some people will order the PPV, watch the CM Punk fight, and not watch the rest of the event. From what I could tell, the guy had some really strange fans while he was still wrestling.

Some of you guys are missing the point of the Punk experiment.

UFC is not giving Punk half a million so they can score decent one-off PPV buyrates (and actually, his first and only PPV still performed poorly, relatively speaking, and his star power was the only reason why it did 450K as opposed to 250K).

They're doing it to lure paying customers from the pro wrestling audience in, converting them into UFC fans, and have them be long-term paying customers.

You don't sell one car to a customer in a day. You build a relationship, and sell them five cars over the next fifteen years.

My brother in law so far has only bought Brock lesnar and cm punk ppv’s. He says he is buying this one.

i watch all of them either way but im ready for rda vs colby the most

you're an idiot if you think cm punk isn't bringing eyeballs.

1. CM Punk was credited with over 150k in buys for UFC 203 by UFC
2. Most PPV buys are not singular views, they are viewed by multiple people per purchase. So there is the intangible of Punk being on the card making it easier for others to chip in since he is a very known entity to casuals.
3. The PPV is in Chicago & he is a major reason for the advance sell-out, so that played into it as well.

Personally I see him adding another 50k which more than justifies his $500k plus PPV points

the wrassling fans at work are all pumped about it...

wrassling fans i'll give it to them.. they are with their guy through thick n thin...

i still don’t get it. Some people will justify him getting paid 250k because he’s famous and he’s bringing and revenue....but is he?

Who exactly is the targeted demographic here? At least Lesnar was
huge and could actually wrestle. CM punk has a dad bod and looked horrible in his first fight.

So...what’s the point? What kind of human is gonna pay for cm punk?! What am I missing here?

I normally watch shows at a bar. I have a hardcore wrestling friend that i've conned into buying both of CM's cards just so I can watch somewhere different.

TS is unfamiliar with the wrestling fan base. They're accustomed go paying for shit and like to know everything.

It's also hard to deny the boost he brought to the buy rate. Stipe/Overeem did 150k more than Stipe/JDS, and Johnson/Cormier 2 a couple months later. The cards that topped Punk's event around that time all had McGregor, Rousey, Jones or Georges on the main event.

The true game of a MMA fan.

Gambling helps.

Hard to understand how he possibly could add more views if anyone saw his first fight, but he probably did bump the sales of the first PPV he was on, as dumb as that is.

It's hard to believe he can bring the same amount or more fans this time.
