First let me say that I don't watch Bellator all that often. I heard of this Great Shlemenko about 6 months ago, so I took the time to watch his last two fights.

So I have watched Bellator for a little over 3 minutes.

So my question for you Bellator fans is simple.

Has Alexander had a couple of really bad nights in a row, or is he actually this bad?

Thanks for any input.

He's had a couple really bad nights against a couple of really bad matchups. He's a good fighter and fan friendly. I don't know where the "Great Shlemenko" stuff comes from. Somebody was even saying "top 2 or 3 MW? Yeah right!" earlier and i was thinking "who ever said any of this shit?"

People like him because he puts on a show and he's unique, if you take the time to watch a lot of his Bellator fights you would probably find why people are fond of him. I never ranked him any higher than somewhere between 10-15 at his hottest. He's a good fighter but i think everybody knew(even his biggest fans) somebody like Halsey was going to come along and destroy him. As for Tito, all he had to do was fall on Storm and that was game...too damn big to go along with Tito's great top game. You look at Halsey and think he was too big and this wasn't even close to the size and weight difference with Tito. Yet, Halsey looked much better than Tito did.

No, he isn't bad. He's good...he's just not THAT good.

That shit crushed my heart.

Literally. I feel like I watched cro cop - gonzaga or lil nog - so

Not relevant to your thread, but damn.

Nah he is a pretty solid fighter, just faced two tough opponents in his last outing. Tito completely outsized him and Halsey is just a solid undefeated prospect. Schlemenko is a solid warrior and a great gatekeeper. He would probably bounce around the top 15 if he were in the UFC.

hes good, durable fighter. a striker moreso so you really can have stylistic matchups against him. as youve seen what his most glaring weakness is

Shlemenko/Tito = Lesnar/Carwin
Some huge mofo gets a on top of you with a submission, you aint doing shit.
Especially since I don't know why all these russian fighters are butthurt about learning a little BJJ. It's all Fedor's fault, for starting it. Okay Sambo is superior Blalala, u needed an art that focuses more on the subs, He had to find out the hard way when he faced a 2nd Degree Black Belt VerDOOM. Pretty embarrassing for an arguable goat.

Look at GSP, he added everything but the kitchen sink to his arsinal, hence considered the most well rounded fighter ever by most. Good to see Weidman starting Kempo for fun too.

He needs to work on his gound game. Is he just working with his students mostly on striking? It's crazy he's only 30, I keep thinking he's in his late 30's.

He needs to stop giving up the back in hopes he can scramble to his feet, period!

He does it, and his top students do it. It's bit them all in the ass in recent big fights now, and they simply need to stop doing it! Post up on the arms and buttscoot to the cage, or work some deep half stuff, but giving up the back has got to go!

No, he's that small for a mw. He cornered Koreshkov, who is a ww, for his last fight, wasn't in a camp himself, and he still was practically dwarfed comparatively. So he should at least be competing at ww. Hell, he could probably compete at lw without much problem. He's not that separate from Minowaman in the challenges he takes on. Of course Tito wasn't even in the normal weight class Shlemenko is too small for. Still Shlemenko managed to be top 15 or so at mw. It is pretty remarkable the run he had in spite of his size disadvantages. Now he should take on fighters close to his own size at ww. Him vs. Paul Daley would be an interesting fight. There will probably be reticence to move down though due to his pupil being a contender.

if he dropped a weight class and jsut improved his grappling abit he would be a legit top ten IMO he can strike with anyone at 170 let alone 155.. im biased though im a big fan

He has had a problem giving up his back in past fights, but I don't think that was the issue this time. Halsey, as a much bigger man, just manipulated him easily so he could take his back right away, and then to his credit transitioned to that choke quickly. Halsey has always had the inclination to go for subs and good instincts to see where they were available, but he hasn't figured out the technique to pull them off until recently.

It looked like he wasn't concentrating or he didn't understand the danger he was in

Yeah, him vs Daley would be interesting but him vs any legit wrestler not so much and WW is full of them. His problems in the ground and avoiding the TD wont be solved just cutting 15+ lbs

I can see Shlemenko beating some guys in UFC but not any top 15

Sure they may. The fact of the matter is he was facing much bigger men the last two fights and just got bullied down to the ground and manipulated for subs. You can't make the conclusion from those fights how he'd fare against guys like DHK, Ellenberger, Gastelum, etc. It's more realistic to at least take a wait and see attitude. Not as if he hadn't beaten a number of wrestlers/grapplers before even at mw, i.e.: Baker, Hess, Falcao, Vianna, etc.

He was an entertaining fighter to watch because his striking was so hilarious. It was like a kid who was a huge power ranger fan spinning all over the place. Plus he instantly got an extra 5-6 spots added to his actual MW ranking because he's Russian and this is Sherdog.

I never took him as a legitimate top tier MW, but an entertaining fighter to watch nonetheless.

He was ranked like top 15 after a really long win streak. It's a huge reach to say it had anything his nationality.

And it's not like the last two fights invalidated his striking in any way. He still hasn't lost a fight on the feet in a very long time.

If he were to fight a known striker in the top 15 he'd be the underdog. Again, fun to watch, but let's not pretend his striking is technical. It's a sloppy hodgepodge of body shots and spinning back fists/kicks.

Agree, he is a title contender at MW in any org not named UFC though. But I dont think he has much for any top 15 fighter.
