Television INVINCIBLE (Season 4 Teaser Trailer, post #958)

If you have seen the entire season one of INVINCIBLE, how would your rate it?

I rewatched S2 over the last week and posted my thoughts in the past page and at the top of this page of the thread.

TLDR - It's much better the second time around.

I don't make many references to TV shows from over 20 years ago, but this is the best comparison I can make -
The Shield Seasons1&2 is the best TV series of the early-to-mid 200s, but Season3 had a dip in quality. The show recovered very well with Season4 and the rest of the series and the dip in quality of Season3 is barely noticeable now.

That's what can happen with Invincible's 2nd season. It clearly has flaws but it also greatly expanded the development of the world & supporting characters.

Don't get too overconfident.
There's five more episodes so the quality may crash.
True but so far so good

Whoa...amazon releases all their episodes like netflix?

Hell, even Netflix isn't dropping all of the episode for a new show all at once anymore.

Disney+ did it for Echo but that's because everyone knew it was going to suck.

By the way, I do have some minor complaints, but they're really not worth mentioning right now because I don't want to overshadow the high quality the show has returned to.

For example - Robot was the 'Tony Stark' of this universe especially in Season 1, but unfortunately ever since he was 'reborn' into a younger Clone, and fell in love with Monster Girl he's a shadow of his former-self.
In Season 3 his character has continued that devolution with being completely whipped.

But with that, and the other minor complaints, I'm just going to let the show cook.

They arent?!

Well, how many episodes of this one are out if it was released on the 6th?

Alittle off-topic from Season3, but a while ago I bought the entire Invincible comic series in hardback, because you know the cliché that 'the source material is always better than the adaptations.'

I've read the 1st Hardcover, which is adapted into the 1st Season and... I wasn't impressed. Its good, don't get me wrong, but the writer Robert Kirkman (who also wrote The Walking Dead) clearly was an amateur at writing superhero comics.

I could have typed out a LONG comparison between the two mediums, comics and show, but no one would want to read all of that. But this video just popped up in my suggestions and its a great summary for what I would have typed out.

The show may not only be the best adaptation from a comic of all time, but it may be the most improved adaptation of all time to the source material.

Thats incredible.

Liked episode 2. Few minor complaints (Cecil was really dumb to push Mark that hard instead of giving him some space and then talk to him) and hopefully we’re past the awkwardness now and mark and Eve can have a good relationship. I like that they did start as friends and supporters of each other first. That feels rare for superhero or any movie/show couple.

Definitely setting up Mark to face his own “do the ‘heroric’ thing or win and save lives” moment for later in the season. Looking forward to it. Also like seeing the guardians. They’re a really good B cast of characters

Completely disagree.
Cecil constantly repeated "Go home Mark."
Mark is the most powerful being on the planet, and he was obviously on the verge of losing control and killing Cecil.
"You're scaring she shit out of me."

They're living in a Post-Omni-Man-Rampage world which killed thousands, and they're preparing for an invasion against the Vultrumite Empire.
Say what you want about Darkwing & that crazy scientist's actions and creations, against what they're up against it'd be a poor strategic decision to not have them on the 'active player list' and just have them rot in prison.

Mark is 19 years old, and quite obviously a hot head after all he's been through. Emotionally compromised.

Cecil is planning on having all assets available in a war against the Vultrumite Empire... which they've only seen two aggressive Vultrumites on Earth, and they beat Mark quite easily.

"We can either be the good guys or the guys who save the world."
In other words, whatever extremely small chance Earth has in the upcoming war will easily become no chance... if they hold their moral principles and sense of justice as a higher priority than victory.

Oh I totally agree Cecil is in the right having Darkwing and Sinclair on his list of options. I just don’t think flexing on mark that “I implanted something in your head that can cripple you and made a room to kill you” is the right move

He also underestimated the new guardians morals vs shut up and take orders. But that’s a fair mistake (so good for TV), as the old guardians would have stood down and let Cecil handle things

His comment about hypocrisy is hard to argue with, Mark willing to give his father some grace despite his killing thousands of times more people than either of these two badguys.

Generally its an interesting situation where I'd argue neither character is obviously "right" and could well be that neither is "proove correct" either. Same with Mark's brother showing the start of a Vultrumite superiority complex.

I felt the main weakness of season 2 was really that it lacked that kind of character focus besides Nolans return. A lot of the strength of the first season I would argue is that it wasnt just a shocking reveal of Nolans nature, he didnt kill the Guardians in disguise, we saw him do it and the season slowly revealed his character rather than just being a plot twist.

Perhaps that was somewhat inevitable? season 2 was a pretty heavy exposition dump.

I like the show but I feel like I'm skipping way to much and I don't feel like I'm missing anything when I do. I was doing the same thing with walking dead before I ultimately just walked away.

Mark blew up on Cecil after Darkwing and Sinclair saved the lives of Mark and.... Basically all the superheroes we know about.

It absolutely was the right move, and Mark proved it was.

As I mentioned they're living in a post-Omni-Man-rampage world.

Tactical mistake by Cecil to use the button on Mark in front of the guardians to cause him to scream bloody murder while being attacked by Sinclair's cyborgs.

Still don't know if Cecil was trying to kill Mark or just subdue him.

I thought Cecil was dumb to attack Mark.

Mark didn't seem like he was going to hurt Cecil. He was angry but he was using his words.

But then Mark pretending that using Sinclair and darkwing was such an evil decision is also dumb. Darkwing saved them. Cecil literally had no superheroes left at his disposal. So every superhero would be dead if not for darkwing and Sinclair.

Mark's a fucking idiot for not understanding that.

So I'm kinda mad at both of them. I wish the rift happened with them being more reasonable, like in marvels civil war.

Well Mark is a nineteen year old dumbass

I listened to this character analysis / review a bit ago and its quite good.

One of the better observations from it that I didn't pick up on was Mark, despite trying to not be like his father is definitely acting like his father, and is the role model of 'Kid Omni-Man' who is DEFINITELY acting like their father.

That isn't a TLDR but just one point. Highly recommended to watch it in its entirety.

I do think its in the shows favour though that its "filler" is generally of pretty high quality, I know for a fact everyone in this thread has watched Omiman wipping out the Flaxxans planet at least 20 times.

I think you could argue the flashback at the end does explain Cecil's actions rather more, that he never trusted Nolan despite having the pretence of a good relationship with him and we see the same with Mark. The comment about his father I think with quite revealing, that situation likely planted an extra seed of doubt that blood might aways be thicker than water.

Besides Mark and Nolan I think he's always been the most interesting character on the show so I welcome what looks like some serious focus, again I'd hope we maybe get something inbetween with him and Mark rather than one being "proven right".

In the last episode I just skipped most, not all of Mark's Mom's(I'm failing to remember her name) relationship filler. I hit play right after she revealed their alter egos and I didn't care what I missed. I think the character is inauthentic and boring. As a married middle aged man I know far to well middle aged women and mothers. But I do have an overall positive view of the show, and it still has my attention, I just think I know what I'd leave on the editing floor. I've lost all interest in most Marvel and DC products and the boys is teetering.

Echo was better than almost any marvel series yet For Vincent appearances as Kingpin alone. Tho that's not a high bar a all .
