Misleading stat. Dariush hasn't fought any high-level (or even mid-level) wrestlers in the last 5 years. And he came into the sport as a bjj player, so opponents generally try to strike with him.

It's like Fiziev's 92% TDD which is second in the UFC to Usman. Looks impressive until you realize he's fought mostly strikers and BJJ guys.

Gamrot will land some takedowns, but he wont do much with them other than break up the rhythm of the fight and drain dariush's gas tank. That's what I see happening anyways

Yeah I see him having a hard time controlling Dariush, but Gamrots gas tank is endless so at one point he may break Dariushs will.

Gamrot is bigger, is stronger, is a better wrestler, and seemingly has a better gas tank. I see him out-hustling Dariush to a decision, although I wouldn't be surprised if he took Dariush's back in a scramble and choked him out.

I do think Dariush is a more dangerous striker, so Gamrot can't get dragged into a brawl. But Dariush's willingness to trade big shots could leave him open to being taken down. I also wonder how Dariush's inactivity will affect him. It's been 17 months since he last fought, and he seems to be focused a bit too much on being a replacement for the title fight.

- slow starter (prefers 5 round fights)
- lot of pressure (last time he fought big crowd was 2018 against kleiber koike erbst)
- mediocre striking with not lot of power
- physically weaker (former FW, smaller than Dariush)


Beneil Dariush

advantages :
+ physically stronger,
+ slightly better, more powerful and diverse striking
+ more experience in UFC (20 fights to Gamrot's 5 - prefight)
+ fought slightly better opposition (KSW is good but..)


disadvantages :
- he is not overlooking Gamrot but is more focused on title shot (based on interviews),
- ring rust (last fight 17 months ago - couldn't finish washed Tony)
- injure prone,

If Gamrot was a bit better at doing top position damage & or holding his opponent down for a while after getting the takedown it would make it incredibly difficult for anyone to beat him over 5 rounds.

Great post, man! This is a kind of fight I most certainly would not bet on. As 50-50 as it gets. Rooting for Gamrot, him being younger andnhungrier is my main point.

Gamrot is the better athlete, Dariush is the better fighter. Let's see what happens.

I agree with the physical aspects, I think Gamrot is so physically durable, strong, relentless, that he can power through whatever a technician like Beneil comes up with.

To the reasonable person, the stat suggests that Dariush has impeccable TDD. In reality, he's been fighting non-wrestlers who aren't even trying to take him down. But you're focused on being pedantic, so you'll probably propose some other unnecessarily literal interpretation.

I would add the skill difference. Gamrot is a high level wrestler with good submissions. Dariush has an excellent submission game and good wrestling for a BJJ guy but not as good as Gamrot's.

Additionally, Gamrot is more athletic and scrambles well.
