Interesting stats about Beneil Dariush and Mateusz Gamrot

I totally understand why Gamrot is the favorite in this match-up... but I also think Dariush is going to make this more competitive than some are giving him credit for. I'm probably going to pick him as an underdog here.

I'm picking dariush too, but not confident at all.

I like Benny, he’s fun and seems like a good dude. But I think he’s in trouble here. I think Gamrot is the better striker, Benny is a little wild. And I think Gamrot has the wrestling to prevent Dariush from getting him down. Great fight though, winner should absolutely get the next shot.

Basically how I feel. I like Gamrot a lot. Seems like a decent guy and he's lots of fun to watch with a great skill set. He certainly has the tools to beat Beneil wherever the fight goes.

That said, Dariush has been my favorite Lightweight for years (especially as my love of Gaethje sort of waned) and I've always seen him as a dark horse of the division. Everyone says that "He's only beaten a shot Ferguson" but in my estimation some of his best accomplishments are decisively out-grappling CDF twice (one of the best anti-wrestlers 155 has seen in years) and also being the sole guy at Lightweight to figure out Rashid Magomedov before he moved on to different promotions. He has no quit in him, hits surprisingly hard, and wrestles surprisingly well offensively and defensively for a BJJ guy. He's not scared to make it a brawl, either. I just worry about his gas tank and occasional lack of defensive responsibility, especially as he's been knocked out in many of his losses and rocked in other fights.

Misleading stat. Dariush hasn't fought any high-level (or even mid-level) wrestlers in the last 5 years. And he came into the sport as a bjj player, so opponents generally try to strike with him.
I just realized that after posting. Really wanted to make a thread about this fight, not talked about enough.

Gamrot will land some takedowns, but he wont do much with them other than break up the rhythm of the fight and drain dariush's gas tank. That's what I see happening anyways

I can't recall if I've read your comments on this in the past, did you think Gamrot won against Tsarukyan?

Just watched his fight with Arman again last night (first time since seeing it live) and forgot that Gamrot spammed the same single so many times that Arman shook off with his crazy flexibility.

<mma4> Me too...

I have picked against Beneil so many times like I did with Poirier and have been proven wrong time and time again and if Beneil isn't murdering his opponents he's downright dominating them. I'm picking him to win.

I feel the same way. Gamrot's wrestling is probably my favorite in the entire ufc, but I've been rooting for dariush for like 8 years now. If he's going to finally get the title shot, I think it's now or never. He needs to hurt gamrot when they're on the feet, and I think he can.

I picked gamrot to win that fight, left feeling like it was a draw. Honestly, I wouldn't be mad with either guy getting the nod.
