Interesting evolution facts

Hippos closest living relatives are whales.

Humans are closers to chimps than chimps are to other apes and monkeys.

Wasps are much closer to ants than to bees.

Lungfish is closer to humans than a lungfish is to a catfish ( and other fish ).

Birds are dinosaurs , so not all dinosaurs are extinct.

If anyone can think of any other interesting facts write them down , i will when i remember some.
Insects and crustaceans may actually be sister taxa based on current research

Male octopuses evolved to have detachable penises due to cannibalistic female mating practices. Them hoes really love teh cock 😲

One I always find funny is biologist answer to which came first, the chicken or the egg. A biologist response is that there was an animal similar to a chicken that laid eggs that mutated or evolved into a chicken. The chicken had to exist before a chicken egg could exists.
Just sidesteps the question. Then you gotta answer what came first, the egg or whatever creature laid the egg

Have you ever read Galapagos by Vonnegut?

Now I’m wondering if a previously civilized society were whiped out and the survivors evolved into some animal that is around now

We should do a poll and see what percentage of Sherdoggers believe in the theory of evolution.

"Members of our species had sex with Neandertals much earlier—and more often—than previously believed, according to a new study of ancient DNA. As some of the first bands of modern humans moved out of Africa, they met and mated with Neandertals about 100,000 years ago"

"By comparing the Neandertal genome with that of modern humans, they found a curious pattern: Present-day Europeans and Asians have inherited about 1% to 3% of their DNA from Neandertals, but Africans have not. This suggested that encounters between modern humans and Neandertals were rare and happened in the Middle East or the Arabian Peninsula after modern humans swept out of Africa, but before they spread widely. When moderns did expand all over Eurasia, they carried that Neandertal DNA in their cells"

They banged homo erectus

I don't wanna knock this thread off course but you can find out how much neanderthal dna you have from a dna test.

If neanderthal dna can be proven, doesn't that really sink the whole bible explanation of the earth and man?

Don't give up your DNA to one of those testing sites.
They'll sell the results of your tests to whomever is wiling to pay.

And what will they do with that ?

Another interesting facts about evidence that we all evolved in Africa

1 - The oldest human fossils are all in Africa

2 - Africans whose ancestors never left the continent are the only humans on the planet that don't have Neanderthal DNA.

3 - The most genetic diversity is found in the place where a species evolved first , and the most genetic diversity by far is seen in Africa , there is a very interesting picture that shows how the farther away you go from Africa , the less genetically diverse humans are.

Chimps are closer to Joe Rogan than Joe Rogan is to other humans and homos sapienses.

True story.

That's a very interesting fact , i watched that on PBS EIONS.

There's a whole family of true crabs called frog crabs, I don't remember the scientific name, that are losing their crab form and are turning more into what the ancestor of the crab looked like.

We also lived alongside the Denisovans, and fucked em. People from East Asia, like Mongolia, still have their DNA. That DNA was once believed that it helped explain how those people can tolerate higher altitudes.
We even found someone, nicknamed Denny, that had a Denisovan dad and a Neanderthal mom.

Even going back to Lucy, there were a couple different hominids running around Africa when she was alive. Up until very recently, we haven't been alone.

Bears are right up there also.
Bears are closer to dogs than any other animals. They are even classified as "caniforms".

Hyenas are closer to cats. They be "feliforms".

Joe Rogan is a purebred "chimpoform":
  • 99.0% chimp,
  • 0.9% homo floresiensis, hence his height.
  • The other 0.1% is a mix of neanderthal, denisovan, and pithecanthrope.
