Authoritarianism builds societies that discourage original thought. They can't design their own vehicles and cheating is encouraged, so copying others accomplishments doesn't come as much of a surprise.

It’s a stupid practice, but on the other hand most of us become good by copying others until a point when we become confident and skilled enough to be creative

Was Hungary like this? Under the good old days?

Sure, to a point. I mean look at Japan. Right after WW2 they sent people to America to tour factories in order to figure out what the Tanks were doing right and copied them. But they always put their spin on stuff and tried to improve whatever they were copying.

Those damned Magyars are a strange bunch. Fewer than 14 million globally but overrepresented as far as inventors and scientists. We've all heard of, or used stuff made by Hungarians whether you realize it or not.

Right, or the US after WW2 with Europe.

I agree with you that I hope where all this leads is more creativity, not less.

This is a very astute observation.

Thanks, although I can't imagine I'm the first one to put it into words. Dogma doesn't foster creative thought after all.
I’ve never heard that explanation for China’s state sponsored corporate espionage, lack of architecture and other artistic pursuits. But it makes perfect sense. I mean, look at socialist realism. Not exactly the apex of creativity.

Only then you're seen as a threat to the party ...........
