Infowars And Alex Jones Banned On Multiple Online Platforms

Getting rid of Alex Jones for fake news is like getting rid of the WWE because its a fake sport or the National Enquirer because its a fake newspaper. The action in and of itself is fake news; pretending that they care about legitimate news and are doing something about it and pretending banishing Alex Jones is going to make a difference is such an absurdity.

My take is that Alex Jones should be deplatformed because he is peddling misinformation, and he knows it. I don't care about whether you think anyone is insincere or whether it's known to be misinformed.

And then there is the censorship/ First Amendment rights - this is the tricky part because the definitions aren't exactly met. One need not like Jones to oppose the idea that people can be ganged up on by borderline monopolies and censored for expressing thoughts they don't agree with. It sets a dangerous precedent in todays technological heavy environment.

Something can both not be a legitimate 1A issue and still be restricting speech in a way that I'd disagree with. So in theory I'm with you on the general point. But I do not have a problem with deplatforming Jones specifically. Again, the border to me is that honest differences of opinion or understanding should be protected, but I have no sympathy for anyone who is knowingly spreading false information.

It is hilarious watching people defend Alex Jones. It's basically like posting, "Hey everyone, never take me seriously ever again."

All the Liberals and Conservatives in here already don’t take each other seriously. It’s a political sub on a Karate forum, I mean..

Are we all for deplatforming NBC, CBS, ABC etc that all get caught time and time again fabricating stories and whipping up anxieties, propagating fear etc. In the past week ALL the major news platforms have reported stories like “3d plastic guns are undetectable by TSA; here are some examples found and confiscated by TSA” demonstrably false and misleading news brought to the American people by the MSM and droves of elected officials.

Not to mention things like https://www.breitbart.com/big-journalism/2016/11/22/12-fake-news-stories-from-the-mainstream-media/amp/ that have happened throughout Recent history

I don't know why people make obvious bad-faith arguments like this.

Not a bad faith argument at all, honest question, the media presents their story with obviously contradicting “truths” proves themselves wrong and somehow get shocked at having been labeled “fake news” what’s the threshold for presenting fake or inaccurate stories before you should be de-platformed and shut down?

Mistakes that are corrected, differences of opinion, etc. are all fine, obviously. Deliberate misinformation is not fine. I don't think this is really complicated.

H3H3 and Gavin Mcinness both got shut down on Youtube and Twitter. The censorship purge is on

More fuel for Gab. These little companies gotta start somewhere and by pushing themselves as an actual free speech platform and providing landing pads for guys like Gavin and Alex they'll pull in the followers of those purged.

But they are private companies! Shouldn't they get to do whatever the hell they want to do in the name of freedumb?

You've fallen all the way down to defending Alex Jones.

I'm not shocked.

Arguing for openness on online platforms != Defending the kooks who use those platforms

For example, @HomerThompson is a kooky guy who opinions are rarely grounded in reality, but I prefer that Sherdog not ban him.

I wasn't aware of much of the stuff he said and done but watching the first 10 seconds of this great video all I can say is, good riddance!

This combined with the death threat, it seems extremely straightforward. Nevermind the illegal Sandy Hook stuff.

These clowns are getting banned on purpose so they can go in perpetual victim mode. Same like on this forum.

For people who hate "leftists" they sure are taking to far left tactics like frogs to water.
