In what way should I digest Pride Fighting?

I highly suggest doing this, i think many fans will find so called boring modern fights more entertaining when they see how things evolved.
Yes! Watching them freak out of Sakuraba playing from turtle in the beginning was fun.

Those first five or six events are mostly pretty rough, but after that they began hitting their stride, and there weren't a lot of boring cards beyond those.

I admire that you went about it in the way you did, event by event. I wish every fan did things that way, with every organization, as much as they can get their hands on. Being able to understand context and how things unfolded makes for better fans, imo.
Agree 100 percent.

Start with Wanderlei vs Rampage I , II ... Fedor and Crocop.

And always watch this one before going out for drinks

Spaced out and thought that last clip went on for like 2 minutes lol

During the Spike era, they used to air a Pride FC greatest hits show. Jay Glazer and Bas, and sometimes Trigg would provide you the context and then they’d cut to the match from the bell ring. It was awesome. This was my intro to Pride. Not sure if that show is on fight pass. Would be cooler if it was. Don’t even remember what they called that show anyway.

I’ve mainly only watched UFC/Bellator fights

I mean should I go card by card ? There is also a best of pride series on fight pass.

Does anyone know where I can watch like Pride backstage promos and press conferences or anything besides just the fights themselves?

Or is that stuff all contained within the main card presentation?

I asked because with the UFC there are weigh in shows, press conferences, vlogs etc

I want to know the backstory of the fights and the shit talking the fighters did to each other and their mentality before fights.

Appreciate the responses!

Also double points if you can help me with WEC too… wonder if those are on fight pass?
Start with Branko Cikatic's fights. That should adequately prep you for Pride.

I started from Pride 1 and just watched every event. They do have some slow burn fights (buffaloing in guard a lot) but man its fun to watch history.
1st 10 or 12 were admittedly heavy on fixing. Though there may had been some fixes after... for sure it's hard to say what's what in those earlier fights. They're a clear skip for me.

Buy a pack of Japanese hot-dogs

Then proceed to use the UFC brander on them

You might be able to find some backstage stuff or press conferences on YouTube. The full things have probably been scrubbed but there are definitely some clips.

If you want fight suggestions let me know. Some of them are better to watch in a particular order due to being tournaments and/or rivalries at the time

I started a while ago watching every events, but man there was a lot of random unknown japanese wrestlers fighting in there before Sakuraba.
Many of them were actually ranked back then. Between Rings and Pancrase there was quite bit more mma in the 90s than just ufc

Watch whole cards. The rules set, each card is epic.

Be careful what you wish for. If they see the tactical chess match and technial masterpiece of Kimo vs. Severn at Pride FC 1, they'll never enjoy any of this so called "MMA" of today anymore.

I did this and made it to like Pride 13 before I fell off and got distracted. Need to go back I survived the deadball era and was just getting to the best stuff.

Yeah the first events are rough but man when you get to the legendary events its so worth it to know the backstories and previous history.
