Yes. I thought it was mostly good in the theatre but it hasnt aged really well. I dont really ever feel like throwing it on.
The origin story didnt really add that much to it. It just became some indian jones temple gimmickry, and Lance Henricksen was the only human that had any character.
I haven't seen it since probably 2009 but I thought it was pretty creative with how it brought everything together and then tied it all up at the end. I just didn't like how as a whole it wasn't made with the same care, level of detail, and tone as Alien or Aliens.
That's the problem with movies like AvP and Freddy vs Jason. They don't take the time to make the world as great as it was in the best films of their respective franchises. They just sort of highlight both worlds in a very general and generic sort of way and then mash them together. It's all very superficial.
Ideally, I think a legit AvP would be like Aliens (the same level of set design, tension, dread, suspense) and then the predators show up (but it's like Predator 1 with the slow build). The key is the slow burn building of tension. Instead, these Vs movies just rush right to the action with not much build up. So it lacks the same tension and dread.
I still think it's a fun movie for what it is, and I can say that I absolutely enjoy it more than the trash ass dogshit of Prometheus, Covenant, and Romulus, and Predators, The Predator, and Prey, but it's a shell of what Predator/Alien/Aliens are.
- I seem to remember one of the early Alien vs Predator games maybe on the PS1 being actually quite awesome. You could choose to play as either the Predator, Alien, or Colonial Marines. It was a solid game. Why not just do a movie like that? That would be way better than anything we've gotten since literally Aliens and Predator 1.
