Almost all deeply religious Muslims and Islamic scholars agree that sports like boxing are haram, since the Quran says punching somebody in the face with a fist is not allowed (opposite to stoning sentence but whatever..).
And there is no exception made from that anywhere in the Quran. So if it applies to boxing it obviously applies to MMA fighting.
Khabib disrespects his muslim fans by fighting in the UFC.

They were wrestling I think, some authentic hadith mentions that Muhammed himself said that punching in the face is not ok to some of his companions. It could be ok only in jihad. But most Muslims don't know or don't care.
