In 8 ufc fights, Dern has only 3 takedowns.

Offically, she has only landed 3 takedowns in her ufc career. This should be a glaring weakness in her game by now, right? Do you think she's at the right gym to fix this weakness? and if not, where do you think she should go?

It doesn't seem like there's as many good wrestling focused gyms for WMMA fighters as there are for males. For instance, AKA is obviously a great wrestling gym, but they seem to have very few female bodies for Dern to train with there.

Anyways, I'm just wondering what you think Dern should do next.
Doesn't she train at her Father's gym?
I don't think she would leave them...

Great money at fighting??? She only made $66k and 25% of that will be paid out to coach, trainers, gym management, etc BEFORE income tax. If you can't post real dollar amounts, don't reply.

Thanks. I agree, that is good money...compared to a nurse or an electrician. But not good for a pro athlete. Next.

Her wrestling is so poor that working with an average high school wrestling coach for a year would greatly improve her skills. There were girls on my high school wrestling team who went from nothing to having better wrestling than Dern with only a season's worth of training. There's millions of wrestlers, former wrestlers, and wrestling coaches in the US, just find one, hire that person, and train.

Yeah explain why to me a trained BJJ black belt cannot easily drag other wmma fighters down. Keep in mind these fighters have little to no wrestling background.

Because bjj and especially competition don't reward takes downs as much as playing guard. It's is more beneficial to practice all ground work more than takedowns because it's an easier route to victory.

A guard player in bjj competition can sweep and sub from the bottom. The top player can only pass guard to get points and before they can start going for subs.

Women in bjj historically pull guard and never do take downs. So being a black belt in bjj doesn't matter if you have take downs because the ability to pull guard.

I'm a black belt in bjj and I agree that they should penalize guard players for pulling guard from start . This would make more top players in bjj and they would inherently get better at takedowns and would make it easier for transitioning to mma.

I didn't list all her payouts either. As of right now before taxes she's at 836k .

Again, that's not even what she's getting in sponsors outside the UFC. She is making way more than most people statistically.

Also we know women mma gets paid lower than males. She's still making more than most women in mma besides the champions.

And all UFC fighters get paid less than professional athletes so that's nothing new.

$836k Over how many years? And lets not forget her income is probably going to go down moving forward by 1/3rd if not more b/c she's not going to see many win bonuses as in the past. Unless she voes back to fighting cans. She definitely could make more money with the PVZ model and she wouldn't have to deal with CTE and the damage weight cutting does over time.

That money is from UFC alone . So what 6-7 fights? That's not shabby at all. It's just funny you tried to down play her pay when you know she making alot of money outside the UFC too.

If she invest that money she will be well off more than most people.

I hope her dad or perillo tell her this lol. I really do.

Yeah, and $200k of that $836k are FoN bonuses, lol. Talk about subsidies not likely in her future!

Sorry, its just not that great looking in to the future for her. She lost her first really competitive fight. She's got zero for the top 3, and just lost to #5? I know you feel emotionally compelled to White Knight her, but it's a no brainer - make MORE money the PVZ way and avoid future ego-crippling losses and CTE.

yes but we are talking about MMA not competition BJJ tournaments. The expectation of her is to utilize her BJJ skills and that requires getting the opponent on the ground. So the question is why can she not do basic single legs, arm drags, body locks and so on. This is your profession.
