I'm thinking of starting a juice fast

If by "juice fast" you mean buying a juicer, a good juicer, and investing in ORGANIC VEGETABLES and FRUITS then by all means you can do it for a week as a beginner.

If you plan on buying some juice at the store then hell no, waste of time.
Grapefruit fast, waste also.

If you aren't going to buy a juicer and organic goods, you are better served to buy a good green supplement and use that for 3 days to a week.

Packaged juices are a waste of time.

I've fasted for 12 days on the juice of whole:
carrot
cabbage
kale
parsley
lemon
apple
beet
orange
banana
celery
ginger
kiwi

I should note that I worked at an organic market.

Anything less than this is unacceptable and time better spent training.

Really (re: grapefruit diet)? I tried it once, and I lost like 5 pounds in a week! Then again, I gained it all back within a few months, so maybe that's what you mean.

Are you sure you're in the right thread?

Sorry, I was on a breathing fast to help my body recover from all that stress of breathing 52 weeks a year. Let me check...

Yep, right thread. I'm here to debunk the b.s. of people thinking that a healthy individual is going to gain positive health benefits from starvation.

I've done 24 hour water only fasts and 48+ hour fruit and water only fasts. I can't honestly say whether or not there were positive health benefits. To me it was more of an exercise in will power than a body cleansing. Yoga programs often start with a fruit fast. They're supposed to "free the body of toxins". This ofcourse is assuming your fruit is pesticide free....

Fasting will help you shed a few pounds in the SHORT term only. Long term weight loss takes a lifestyle change, PERIOD.

My suggestion, try it for yourself and form your own opinion.

cool, tell me how it goes...

Currently at about 53 hours without any foor whatsoever - not drank a whole lot of the drink either - the cayenne pepper is not a favourite of mine.

Other than that hardly feeling hungry at all - think it's because I know I'm gonna go 7 days and got a load of hours ahead of me - if it was a normal day and I hadn't eaten my stomach would be rumbling like a bitch.

If nothing else, I'm already thinking about all the food I can eat when it's over and how good it'll taste - I'm not doing this to lose weight but to clean out my system - let's see if it works

I've heard of fasting, Chad, and although I know you and Kabuki praise it, I've never read anything that supported fasting for athletes. I've seen carb cycling and even fat cycling (never protein cycling), but never complete fasts.

If there are benefits to starving, I don't know what they are, and I definitely don't understand how they would be good for someone who is IN training.

I'm willing to read.

He never stated he was training.

I assume you aren't unless I know otherwise.

Juice fasting is the oldest, safest (biochemical) method of removing unwanted toxins and weight. Skilled juice fasting helps you to stay healthy and vital, as well as helping in the breaking of addictions. Furthermore, it increases mental clarity.
Even if you feel you are relatively healthy, a juice fast is a wonderful preventative measure against aging and possible future ill-health.
Juice fasting can help to lose surplus weight

The benefits of juice fasting are on so many levels, and different people choose to do our program for various reasons. A number of people enquire as to whether they will lose weight. If you have weight to lose, you will certainly lose some of it - depending on how long you fast for. It is also an excellent first step to losing weight and changing bad eating habits.

Low calorie and other fad "diets" usually fail because they literally starve the body of much-needed nutrients, causing even greater biochemical imbalance. Thus, when one can no longer stand to continue with the diet because of how heavily the body is craving what is denied, one is usually forced to binge to the point of gaining more weight than was lost, further lowering self-esteem.

During scientific juice-fasting however, the body autolyzes - self-digests its own stored substances, resynthesizing nutrients and eliminating toxins. Additionally, fruit and vegetable juices, alkalinizing vegetable broth, and herbal teas all add vitamins, minerals and trace elements to the body, in addition to aiding detoxification.

After the fast, the body is better able to digest food and is better at utilising nutrients in the food. The organs have a new vitaluty - any sluggishness will have disappeared. If the body was prone to water-retention, this also disappears.

I'm an athlete and the first thing I do is fast before cutting and training for a fight, given I have a few months. Sure, you aren't going to bulk for a few weeks but who gives a shit, most people here want to lose weight.

I see it's value.

Ok just finished, full 7 days of no food - only had the lemonade drink - the salt water flush made me feel too sick, maybe cos I was using the wrong kind of salt.

'the headhunter' - not sure what your goal is if you are thinking about doing this, I have lost a bit of bodyfat but I obviously can't tell if it's 'cleaned' my system. Though for me at least, 7 days of no food is not at all as bad as I thought it would be. Got any questions just give me a pm if you want

check your PM Lee456

anyone had a colonic before? i'm thinking about getting one done to clear out my system...
