Has anyone ever been to Holland on vacation?

On the 29th of February is my 2nd wedding anniversary (or 8th depending on how you look at it). My wife and I are leaving this afternoon for a 10 day vacation in Holland. We know someone who lives there otherwise we could never afford it. What should we do? Where should we go? I know "the red light district" but I mean a little more specific.

I'm in Maryland and leaving BWI at about 7:30pm. It's an estimated 13 hours before we arrive at our final destination.

I went to Amsterdam as a child so have no real recommendations. If it's anything like germany, eat lots of french fries and steak/veal/pork schnitzel.

Matter of fact, some major cities in Germany are an hour or two drive from Amsterdam. Try to visit those as well.

Dude, have a great time. Never been, but would love to visit one day. Update this thread with your adventures: meals, odd things you see, if they really do use mayo on fries, etc. I love hearing about daily exploration in a new city/country.

I don't know anything about Amsterdam TS , but you should definitely tell this guy where you live and if anyone will be watching your place while you're away.

Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam is the best I saw in Europe. Go admire the Rembrandt's. Also rent a bicycle and ride that all day and eat stroopwaffels.

i prefer the van gogh, but that one is great as well. i have only been to amsterdam, but it's a great city. just like any major city, it has great restaurants, museums, bars, etc. the women are gorgeous. they're quite tall, but they didn't seem to mind that i was a bit shorter haha. simply walking around the city is pretty awesome as well. i know there are dutch posters here, so i'm sure they can provide more info.

thats a long flight... It only took me 8 hours to get to Germany from NY and 6 to Ireland.. Do you have a layover someplace?

Beautiful.

Red light district is weird. There's like families walking around and a group of Koreans pushing thier friend into a door to have sex and whores standing in windows and people eating ice cream... like where am I right now? Whole city feels like you're on a movie set.

Prague is great too, best value in Prague for what you spend but Amsterdam is unlike any city in Europe, maybe like Venice but I never went there. I didnt patricipate in the RDL services and I didnt even smoke weed... I was traveling solo and it was my first stop after London... id go back for sure as I still need to blaze in Amsterdam. Im turned off by whores but Brian Cranston lost his viginity there so if he can do it why not lol! But to me its an odd thing. Too much to write about here. Must see city for sure.
