Ilia Topuria has the making of a GOAT

He’s great everywhere with no discernible weakness thus far; great power, good boxing fundamentals, strong kicking game, takedown defense, and fantastic grappling. The only time he’s really struggled was briefly against a taller longer striker in Jai Herbert, which makes a Holloway matchup very intriguing. Max is a nightmare with his pace and volume, but Topuria could very well be the first guy to crack his chin.

Another idea for a thread title OP:

"Volk was never that good"

No what? Thats incompatible with the point I am driving in this thread: Part of the reason Topuria has the material of a GOAT is because of how amazing Volk is in conjunction with how easy Topuria beat him

Volk at his peak was an amazing fighter. Let's see how he does after this fight. We've seen other fighters in their mid-30s go from elite to heavily declining very quickly before (Woodley, Koscheck, Ferguson, etc.) Volk-Islam #1 was the last time he looked elite IMO.

The amount of GOAT & Never that good sentiments after a big fight are predictable but still surprise me every time. They really are the premature ejaculators of mma forum posters.

Has it taken you this long to figure this out TS? The rest of us have known Illia would be the GOAT from his first fight in the UFC. It's not like there was ever any questions. Volk on the other hand was never that good.

This place is so predictable.

The topics, the responses, the jokes..

I wouldn't make the thread myself but...

"Ilia Topuria has the making of a GOAT"

I think it's true. Whether it is or not is at least debatable.

"Sean Strickland/Raquel Pennington/Jamal Hill have the making of a GOAT"

No one said this. I wonder why?

Illia Topuria wasn’t kidding when he said he was the evolution of MMA. He is world class everywhere. Him, Merab, and Shavkat are going to be top 2 all time in their respective divisions by the time they retire. MMA has evolved

I thought he looked Elite vs Yair.

Then give me original post a like.

Didn't he call out Conor Mcgregor and say that no one else at FW deserves a rematch?

One of the most important factors in GOAT discussions is an insane number of title defenses

Topuria is an outstanding athlete and fighter, but I think we need to see him clear out his division and rack up a few title defenses first before we can determine if he is even one of the GOATs of the division first

There's a possibility, but we have to see how things play out.

I agree that he's got a chance at being an all time great. He's become champion at a good age and he doesn't really have any obvious weaknesses.
