Media Ilia Topuria changed his nickname to "La Leyenda"

A bit suprising tbh. Thought it would be open season on him as soon as he announced the move. Smaller champion moving up to your division while talking all kinds of shit?

But not a peep from anyone lol
Because looking at him in the cage, it's hard to believe he wouldn't beat the piss out of the majority of LWs too. I think if he can show he has great TDD or ability to get back up, he's a top notch choice for Islam to fight.

Legend. It sounds corny in english but badass in spanish.

I approve of La Leyenda. It rolls off the tongue b/etter.
Legit question. Would El Leyenda be incorrect grammar? I thought La was the feminine usage for “the”?

Dude has balls.

Dropping his belt and calling himself a legend before jumping for a swim in the shark tank.

Yeah, he's backing up all his talk and proving to be extremely confident in his abilities, and fuck he very well should be.

kinda wack, but whatever. not sure we needed a whole announcement for that either, but at least he's enjoying himself I guess

Yes it would. Leyenda is a "female" word and the article for it has to be female to be gramatically correct.
It's possible some people have nicknames with "discording" article and name, with the article referring to the person, would signify like "Mr. Nickname". An example of this would be a football player called "El trenca" (trenca = trench coat), because he wore trench coats, it means something like "the trench coat guy".

If your objective is to say you're a legend, "la leyenda" is the way to write it.

Thanks for the great explanation and Spanish lesson Sherbro!

If he beats Charles and Islam, and has a couple more wins and stay undefeated he will be a legend for sure, something bigger than champions, something greater.

There's been a lot of gym stories surrounding El Toppo as well. Gilbert a couple of years ago talking about how he came to the gym and KOed three dudes out COLD with the big boxing gloves for example. Or how he took down some legit Dagestani/Russian wrestler.

And you have Masvidal talking highly of El Toppo so I'm assuming he's been over there training, which is where Poirer trains as well so he might've seen that shit up close too in person.
