Always felt it's so stupid that UFC stars waste their prime by fighting once or less than once a year which sadly, appears to be the norm for half the UFC champions.

Topuria last fight was Oct 2024. Next fight MIGHT be 6/24. Who knows if he'll get injured or his opponent will get injured? Even if he does fight then, likely he won't fight again until 2026.

A champion in his prime should be confident that he can't be beat. He should shoot to fight 4 times a year, schedule a fight every 3 months. Of course, he or the opponent will always fail to show up for one, so you'd end up with 3 fights a year. Shoot for 4, but fight 3 times.

If you shoot for 3, you'd get 2 fights. If you shoot for 2, it's 1 fight. If you're Jon Jones, you shoot for 1 a year, then end up fighting every 2 years. Since 2019, Jones has fought 3 times.
I can't endorse this post enough.

Inactive champs/top fives have probably contributed to the ballooning of the roster causing cards to have a bunch of noobs and lower-level fighters in a larger amount of the cards overall.

Not that noobs/lower level fighters always put on poor performances, but wow does it sap the excitement from a card when it's a huge percent of these types.

Yeah, it's sadly what happened to boxing. Once the champ makes big money, they can cherry pick opponents and just fight once or twice a year. Then the top contenders follow suit and wait on the champ, so they don't risk their rankings.

The UFC has unfortunately followed boxing in this respect.

Is there any legit reason why a promotion couldn't just implement an inactivity=stripped of the belt? Like at even just 1 year barring any proven injury causing inactivity?

Seems like it would be the right move to protect their brand and business.

Watching that Arman Charles and Islam Charles again.. Gonna be tough for Ilia to land inside shots and keep the fight standing. Charles sets a lot of traps.. he has the reach advantage and you know he's gonna bait Ilia into ground exchanges.

Ilia fought a similar fighter -- I forget his name, but he was an extremely sloppy version of charles. Like he would just dive around and lay on the ground hoping for Ilia to jump on him. Ilia didn't go for the trap . But with Charles.. It's a split second decision where you think you knocked him out and chase him to the ground.

It was Ryan Hall and Charles is much better overall, maybe only a bit less menacing with leg attacks. Anyway, I think Charles isnt that dangerous on ground when hurt and it feels like he is going down hoping to shell up in full guard to recover and in most cases I saw him getting brutalized down there or even submitted. He doesnt want to try this with Topuria too.

Rumor has it that he's fighting Nick Diaz who's finally making a comeback

they are never ashamed of twisting facts or even straight lying about stuff... this happens so often with the guy you responded too and his buddehs. when you catch them lying they just go silent and then some short time later try the same again in other threads with other shermanos. its because they try to generate narratives to certain events which then make their guys look better than they actually have been. a very poor and ridiculous tactics but actually very common in their culture.

Yeah... I would think the UFC has tried to do something like that, but we just don't know about it and what prevents them. After all, Dana does have a lot more power than boxing promoters as the UFC is so dominant of an organization.

Unfortunately, they prob can't force them to fight as it's prob relatively easy to come up with injury excuses/reasons (every pro athlete always has some injury). So I think the only thing they can do, are interim titles, which is why we do see a good number of them. And I'm actually ok with that, I think more interim champ the better, it just establishes the clear #1 contender and pressures the champ to fight sooner than later.

i'd LOVE to watch him beat the brakes off either justin, dustin or paddy

a clash of titans against arman would be cool too
