IF Stipe did happen to beat jones.... Rematch?

Oh yeah that is right

But I still dont agree he should get 2 instant rematches. Izzy did, and I didn't agree with that either.
Agreed. I very much prefer to see the two best fighters challenge for the belt.
It's difficult to know where the champ stands against the rest of the division if he keeps fighting the same guys (Usman for example).

Stop this revisionist history, When Jones was fighting Stipe the first time the guy on a tear was Pavlovich. Tom never deserved this fight until he beat blaydes
First time, yes. Aspinalls tear was stopped by his knee injury vs Blaydes. He's since then come back with 3 first round finishes, including against Blaydes and Pavlovich.
He stole all the hype from Pavlovich.

Jones status earned him the opportunity to rebook the Stipe fight, but it should definitely not be enough for him to be given a potential rematch vs Stipe if he was to lose.

I definitely see this as the worst case scenario for most mma fans that want to see Aspinall's title reign start.

Would Jones end his career on a loss? Would Dana Go full conker with dollar signs for pupils and book the rematch for next memorial day?

I think we all agree this is the worst case scenario, Would the UFC allow Jones the rematch?
I've thought about it and I don't think so. Everything about Jones is based on the narrative of him being undefeated and unbeatable. Once he's defeated, everything will fall apart. Added to this is Dana's statement saying that whoever wins, has to face Aspinall.

I think there should be a limit on his privilege, regardless of GOAT-status.

His status got him the vacant title shot vs Gane, and allowed him to cherrypick Stipe as his defense, even though Aspinall has been on a tear and won + defended his interim belt.

If he was to lose and get a rematch, and potentially even a 3rd fight vs Stipe, we could very likely end up in a ridiculous situation where Aspinall defends his interim belt 1-2 more times. That would mean that he would have beat basically all top contenders before getting the real belt.

Yes, in addition the reason Jones/Stipe has taken so long is because Jones got hurt. So if Stipe wins Jones can get a rematch but it cannot be immediate. Jones (and partly the UFC) created this mess so Jones would need to wait for Stipe to retire or for the winner of Stipe/Aspinall.

It'll be the funniest thing ive seen happen since trading mighty mouse for askren....
The verbal gymnastics Dana will pull...

eh, i dont think Jones has enough title defenses at HW to warrant a rematch. if this was at LHW it'd be a different story.
if its a knock down-drag out war and Stipe or Jon wins by a close decision, i could see a rematch making sense. but ultimately i'd prefer whoever wins to face Tom and keep HW moving along.

Sure, right after bones sits out for another three year ped violation, then the trilogy fight, they should have this thing wrapped up in time for Stipe and Jones to collect their social security.

Dana has directly stated that Tom gets the next title shot when asked about this stuff this week, so let's hope it stays that way.

Honestly, I imagine that Dana says this fully believing that Jones is about to eat Stipe alive.

I think, Jones doesn't get the rematch and you make Stipe fight Tom. Jones probably retires then.

If any fighter in the history of the sport deserves an immediate rematch it is jon jones. that would happen 100% if stipe were to win.

it's hilarious that people believe he deserves anything.

a bonafide cheater, disgrace to the sport, and super inactive.

yet deserves everything in the world.

If I'm Miocic, and if I beat Jon Jones, I'm retiring before the official announcement ends. In fact I'd be back on a firetruck so fast they'd have to call me to tell me the official decision.

100 percent rematch
your crazy if you believe guys like izzy deserves to get title shots anywhere
but not the best fighter of all time lmfao

not many people count his "loss" to matt hamill as an actual loss. there is literally no other fighter who has gone on a run like he has, cheating or not. it is hard not to justify it if you are looking at it from an unbiased perspective. I rooted against jones most of his career, but I can give credit where it is due.

If Stipe wins:
1. Sherdog will crash.
2. Jon will get an immediate rematch and he will quickly take it.

But Jon wins this. Then he immediately retires or holds the belt hostage and retires later.

If Jones gets a rematch for the belt over the interim champ it just proves the UFC is a micky mouse organization and not a serious sporting league

Good grief imagine a trilogy. 2-3 more years of this shit while Tom wastes his prime years away.
