michael jordan is mentally and physically the most complete athlete i've ever seen...a pure freak

honorable mention: Secretariat
 
I'm not exactly the best person to judge all sports because I just don't follow them all that closely, but in my lifetime, Wayne Gretzky & Michael Jordan have been the two most dominating athletes that I've seen.

Alltime? Ah, I don't know...Maybe some Olympic champion and then successful multi sport athlete like Jim Thorpe might get my vote.

Are horses eligible?

If so, Secretariat's run at Belmont may have been one of the most dominating performance I've seen in sports, but regardless of that run by him...

Please get this straight on a P4P basis Ali is not the best fighter ever. He maybe somewhere in the top 10 behind Robinson and Armstrong for sure. I personally think Joe Louis was the #1 heavyweight.

Like any subjective question, it depends who you ask.

Step 1 Define greatness. Lots of ways to do that.
Step 2 What sports should be included. Different cultures will approach this differently.
Step 3 Load up the list with your favorite players from your favorite sports. That
 
i do agree with the fact that ali is a top guy on most lists....he transcends boxing...very inspirational
 
Id say greatest athlete of all time is Bo Jackson.

Had he not got injured, he'd been HOF in both sports.

Sugar Ray Robinson is the greatest boxer of all time by the way.


That top 100 list isnt pure athlete, it has a lot of other factors like social relevance etc.

Bo Jackson was an allpro RB and an Allstar MLB player.

Pfft.

On the track with no rabbit and with somewhat equal carrying weights, the Good Doctor would set a pace that Big Red would just not be able to overcome, my friend (Secretariat lost his races to horses that set a fast pace at the beginning and led wire to wire..e.g. Onion, Angle Light, who aren't exactly elite quality horses like Damascus or Buckpasser), unless it's a distance race like Belmont, then maybe...But hey, if the two did run together at Belmont and Big Red overtook the Good Doctor on the last turn, well shoot, Big Red is liable to have a huge chunk taken out of his ass when their coming down the stretch.

I'll give you the Belmont run, though, because that was something exceptional, but Secretariat's running times at Churchill Downs and Pimlico that year may be a little less impressive considering they were run on fast tracks that saw quite a few track records fall over the course of those weeks (CD, for sure).

First of all...Sham was a superb horse and way underrated....he'd be a triple crown contender any year nowadays and Secretariat just broke him and some of Secretariats losses are wknown to have been when the horse was ill and when he should've scratched. i do give Onion his credit.

When Secretariat is on form though i don't see any horse beating him

PS...I do admit i'm a bit biased..Sec's my favourite alongside John Henry :)
