For a title shot yes. Ilia routinely fights 9 months after his previous. Islam is fighting JDM 10 months after his last fight. Volk took 14 months off before fighting Lopes. Khamzat JUST waited 9 months for his title shot.

how does fighting in feb and then in december = 5 months apart? Go back to kindergarten math class.

This is why averages are an irrelevant statistic for many topics. This data is too skewed for averages to mean anything. The fact of the matter is you suggested a rounds up to 7 month gap between fights, followed by a 10 month gap. How did you calculate an average of 5 month gaps from this data? The correct math would be a 7 month gap then a 10 month gap = 17 divided by 2 = 8.5 month average time between fights but the near year long gap is what people would remember. 10 months leading into a title shot is not the norm. It happens cause somebody got injured or ramaducked or whatever

and those huge gaps between title defenses is frowned upon. How many times did Alex defend over how many months? Just cause a few belt squatters belt horde doesn't make it right. Fighting champions get the praise. Belt squatters get called out for it.
