Which is very likely, is he one of the GOAT?

Guys resume is pretty incredible, especially if factor in the 2-3 extremely controversial fights he's had.

I think some might disagree because of lack of finishes but he is very high up on the all time greats of mma. He could make 135 by dehydrating like others but instead was champ at 155 and has had a great run at 145. I just wish his wife would STFU during his fights.

Not even close to GOAT material.

GOATs don't drop 3 consecutive title fights.

Frankie would fall into the same tier as guys like Randy Couture and BJ Penn. Great fighters, but not one of the best of all time.

Also, not sure why you feel it's so likely that Frankie wins seeing as he lost the 1st time and Aldo should be returning with a vengeance. Frankie has a shot, no doubt, but I'd hardly call it "very likely" since he's 0-1 against this opponent already.

You cant have "one of the GOAT"
There is the GOAT; and then there are others.

GOAT? No. But he is very good. I think to get to that level he would need to hold the belt for longer, have more wins over elite competition(not that he doesn't have some great wins) and basically clean out a division the way we have seen from GSP, Anderson Silva, Fedor, Jon Jones, Mighty Mouse. A name that comes to mind if Robbie Lawler. I don't consider him one of the GOAT, but the dude has had a hold on that divison for a while. But you don't get to that point for just winning the belt. It takes time and big, big wins. Matt Serra was champ at one point and I don't think anyone would consider him a great.

Frankie arguably won all 3 of those fights and Aldo is coming off a viscous 1st round KO loss while Edgar has been dominating the entire division. I'll be shocked if Aldo makes it out of 3 rounds with Edgar, he hasn't been the same since the new drug testing and IV ban.

Thread title should be changed to "After Frankie wins..."

This fight won't be nearly as close as the last one.

I think it's impossible to say who's the greatest in MMA. Even if it wasn't, I don't think the name would be Edgar.

However, I do think both him and his place in the history of the sport are underrated. Frankie is practically a bantamweight who has been a solid 155 champion - beating a legend in BJ Penn in the process. Not only that, he's a featherweight contender with a real chance of getting that belt, which would make him one of the few champions in two different weight classes.

Gotta respect The Answer.

Agreed. I'm not saying I think he is the GOAT, but if I were to make a top 10 list of the Greatest Fighters that ever lived he would most certainly be in there.
