If Ankalaev win this saturday, will he be the most unpopular champion of all time ?

I've never seen a fight by the flyweight champion, Merab doesn't seem popular but is at least talked about, same with Bella but are we going with of all time or active?

Edit: in retarded I see of all time is in the title.

Does being disliked make you popular?
It can. Tito didn't mind playing the dumb villian. His fights were often ended in violence too.

Tim sylivia on the other hand people genuinely don't want to see him and couldnt sell ice water in hell.

#1 ranked Ankalaev notable wins before Rakic:

#3 Jan - Draw but should've won
#5 Santos
#5 Smith

#7 Walker
#7 Krylov
#8 Volkan

#8 ranked Rountree notable wins:
#8 Smith
He drew with Jan. No use rewriting the past as it invalidates your argument.

The people I bolded are all victories he had prior to his first title fight, when beating Santos, Krylov and Volkan meant anything for title contention, a few years ago.

The reality of the matter is since his fight with Jan, we've had 3 different champions while he's only fought Walker twice and recently Rakic. Ankalaev and his management are directly to blame for him taking this long to get another shot, especially when he already ducked the fight once on record for the biggest event of the year.

it depends on how Ank beats Alex.
if its a boring fight , yes no one will remember Ank. but if Ank. beats the shit out of Alex and humiliates him on the ground , yes Ank's popularity will grow and everybody will act like they knew

Tim was one of the first that came to my mind.

Had Hill managed to hold out as champ a little bit longer, he'd probably have that status for eternity.

Who cares? Oh noooes !! popularity!!!

then that makes it even worse, they book the #1 contender for a fight and have the champ fight the #8 guy for a free title defense who did not deserve it at all. Ank-Rakic was at UFC 308 and Khalil-Alex was at 307 so it is odd that ank-rakic got announced earlier but that makes it even more of a strange choice to let the deserving guy earn a shot and let an undeserving person fight for it. It's retarded matchmaking and suspicious

Alex said he felt the shot and said it was a flash knockdown in the UFC countdown, you are trying to say little damage was done when that's just not true, he got hit with a headkick on the temple and flash knocked down as well as a few left hands in round 1 and early in round 3, someone who didn't do a lot of damage to alex was Jiri who barely hit him, not khalil

If you have an issue with the UFC and their match making, take it out on them and not Alex or his fans. The UFC simply explained it that they needed to make a fight for Salt Lake City and it was after Ankalaev was booked. From my memory, they had a fight they were booking for that UFC 307, but it fell through so they approached Alex and Khalil. The UFC had their reasons for doing it. But it's not like they were avoid giving Ankalaev the shot, they offered him Alex for UFC 300 and now they made the fight for this weekend. It was just bad timing for Ankalaev more than anything around the time of UFC 307/308

Yes, littlle damage was done. And why?? Beacuse at no point was Alex phased by those strikes and like I said, not much landed clean. And you know why the flash knock down had no impact or did no damage?? For one, it wasn't even a clean strike, it connected with the back of Khalils hand and caught Alex off balance after a head kick. And two, Alex right after that moved forward and stalked Khalil for the rest of the round. Fighters that take a shot that impacts them or are "hurt" as you said, will get defensive and show signs the strike affected them. Alex showed none of that.

Life goes on. Alex will move up and beat tom to be the 1st to win gold in 3 divisions. Lhw will lose excitement until jiri beats ankalaev and Dana cuts him

Adesanya secretly hanging out with Jamahal hill
That’s the ufc main plan.

The list is short...right now i think Belal held that title of the most unpopular champion, Strickland had a good following on social medias, heck even johnny hendricks and robbie lawler were popular back then as champions, i don't see anything about Ankalaev on social medias that make the hype go for him.

Thoughts ?

Nah, you still got Belal Whats his face…
