Iaquinta performance against Khabib the most overrated ever?

Al took a beating. He had the opportunity to take the easy way out. Did you see him quit? That's called heart and that's called toughness.

He took the easy way out when he let Khabib polish off his jab on his chin.

Tibau arguably won the fight although Khabib was never in any danger.
McGregor officially won a round but Khabib was never in any danger.
Poirier had him in a bit of trouble with his guillotine.
Johnson rocked him for a second.

Al survived but was beaten to a pulp in the process just like Barboza.

Imo besides Poirier and Johnson, Khabib was never in any danger. Besides the Tibau fight, he was never in any danger of losing the decision. Besides the McGregor fight, he never lost a round. So those 4 names are definetely over Al in their performance against Khabib.

It's safe to assume that you have never actually been in a fight if you think that taking a beating = the easy way out.

He would've taken a bigger beating had he gone to the ground, which is why he served up his chin as Khabib was content to tee off on that target instead.

Are you really criticizing a fighter for trying to stand with Khabib instead of going to the ground with him? Are you new to this stuff?

It's one of the best examples of how announcers can control the narrative of a fight. Iaquinta was whiffing punches while Khabib jabbed his face off and Rogan was making it seem like Khabib was in danger of being knocked out.

Lmao Khabibs striking defence is so good the crowd and announcers go nuts when a shot hits his arm or grazes his face
Announcers are doing everything to make the fight sound more engaging instead of predictable and one-sided.

yeah I don't see it either. Shrugged off some half-hearted TD attempts and then just stood in front of Khabib getting jabbed in the face. Dustin made a better run at it imho.

"Trying to stand" implies he was fighting back. He was standing alright, but he wasn't fighting back.

It was an incredibly smart gameplan... to limit the potential damage he was taking. Hence why he developed it during the fight and not before it. He only realized mid-fight that Khabib would accept the easy victory if he gave it to him. But it's utterly ridiculous to sit here and pretend his execution of it was at all attempting to win himself the fight and show heart. He willing sacrificed himself to jab city to avoid ground and pound town.

He was giving himself a chance to win. If he is fighting Khabib in the stand up then he has a chance to catch him in an exchange. He knew damn well that he could not win the fight on the ground.

He was getting his ass kicked. He could have easily went to the ground, gave up the sub and tapped and went to the back to collect his check. Staying in there to fight Khabib was most definitely not the "easy way out". Saying that Al did not show heart and toughness in that fight is utterly ridiculous. There is no quit in that guy.

He lost every round and never had Khabib in any trouble, but apparently Iaquinta supposedly "exposed" and "made the blueprint" on how to beat him.

I think it was more about how lopsided the match up was already supposed to be. He was ranked 11 or 12 at the time. It was expected to be a 1-2 round squash.

Exactly. Anyone saying al took the easy way out is a retard. Al took a beating for five rounds when he could have just given up his neck and collected his paycheque.

Dustin is the one with the overhyped performance if anything. Mostly because he’s a likable dude, cried, etc. but he really got skullfucked.

Going all in on a Hail Mary guillotine then getting submitted immediately is something any other fighter could have done

If he’d gone all-in and pulled full guard from the standing position, he might have actually gotten it.

But he didn’t do that. He was trying to defend the TD instead.

Doing a guillotine against a world class submission grappler who knows how to defend every submission is never “hail mary”.
In fact, every submission takes several steps and correct leverage against an experienced MMA opponent. It can never be called hail mary.

Iaquinta basically curled up and made himself a punching bag. Smith did the same thing against Jones and got blasted for it, why should Iaquinta be praised for doing the same thing? Reminder that Smith came closer to beating Jones than Iaquinta did, he could have won had he taken his DQ.

People are just desperate to find holes in Khabibs performance, that's all. Khabib was never in trouble versus Iaquinta and treated it like a showmatch.

Idiots claim he couldn't put Al away when the reality is that Khabib just wanted to enjoy these 5 rounds and show that he can easily go 5 rounds.

Khabib probably carried Al to a decision as a "thank you" for stepping up as a late replacement.

He's the only one of Khabib's last 5 opponents who has had decent wrestling .

Porier has average wrestling.
Al took the fight on short notice & took him 5 rounds why does everything have to be "the most overrated"?

Its a sign of a great fighter when this happens.

He had a good plan going in. Its just he,like conor also realized at some point, you cant make any overt moves,he would just get taken down. He can feel it,and it freezes you in your tracks.

His defense on the ground was good. He really hung tough there. Most guys crack.
