I’d like to know about everyone sharing this opinion;

Why can’t you just admit you’re a lower class “fan” that only wants to see a violent slugfest due to either
1) being too low IQ to understand high level MMA

2) never trained yourself so not understanding the beautiful concept of “hit and don’t get hit”

or 3) blinded by favoritism due to fighters’ outside the cage antics?

Ian Garry is improving imo. He ruined Shavkats aura and arguably beat him. Prates was supposed to win but Garry took it to him and hurt him badly a few times. I'm concerned with the ending of that fight though. Maybe he gassed because his style is about movement

I for one don't mind his character too much. As a fighter he sort of reminds me of Machida. He needs to develop some power though and improve his BJJ with Maia. Generally his (head) movement is brilliant. At times against Carlos even when he was cornered he was dodging strikes

a "boring point fighter" with an equal number of career finishes vs decisions ( 8 vs 8 )

lol @ mma 'fans'

if you didn't enjoy his combos in rounds 2,3 and 4 then this isn't the sport for you and you need to shut up basically.

If you want to admit to being a low iq person no ones stopping you.

Im somewhat of a low iq person myself.

I guess theres some lines tho. You can pretty much admit that you are not a fan of someone no matter who that person is. What you cant do however is go full psycho and start harrasing the person with threats, hate speech, dick pics or whatever. Thats just not cool. Unfortunately some dont seem to understand this even if it should be easy.

I want to see a fight. I dont expect fighters to go Wanderlei vs Leben style but i like to see a fight. Violence, damage are all part of it. One of the Aldo vs Mendes fights was insane, technical, violent, perfect example of what we should be watching. Guys like Ian, Merab, Belal, Ank,Val, they just throw combo’s to win points, everything they do is thought to sway the judges, they dont really fight or try to do any damage. Just go and watch sparring sessions then if thats what you like.

But get of your high horse talking sh** about a fight fan who wants to see a fight and not a sparring session…

I don't think Ian is boring but he does lack power which is going to become a problem as he gets older. As we have seen with people like Dominick Cruz, Garry's style relies a lot on consistent movement, distance control and cardio. I have a feeling when any of those things start to fail that decline is going to be hard to watch.

The type of fighting that Ian has is technically beautiful to watch but when any of the floors drop out the whole building crumbles (i.e. Joanna, Cruz, Dillashaw, etc.).

I think he TRIES to finish, but he just isn't powerful enough, and on the ground he just isn't exceptional. He has a problem closing the show.

It's not through lack of effort. He is working the whole fight. He just isn't a powerful hitter.

He wins through speed, volume and variety...but it's gonna get harder as the level of comp goes up. Prates probably should have got him out of there in the 5th

I don't understand the "sparring" comments for this fight. Garry threw legit hard shots for all the rounds.

HOWEVER, there is for sure a thing where actual sparring sessions take place or grappling stalemates where absolutely nothing happens and you have a team of retards who love to say "hurr durr you don't understand the intricacies of MMA you just want slugfests!" and they only say that to try and come off as some sort of expert level connoisseur of MMA that's above everyone else and it sounds so silly.

correct

so in this particular conversation, I'm most definitely an expert level connoisseur that's above everyone else I'm criticizing

Forgive them..

For they know not what they do...

This point fighting complaining unfortunately is still a side effect from the Conor era..where if you dont just stand infront of Conor and let him K.O you your not a real fighter and a rat and staller ,crotch sniffer ETC

He's allright, but he puts on the work to be champ and I think his critiques do have a point.

With a bit o pulsing he could get that extra strength and aggression that make champions and crowd pleasers.

Via points

Via being better than your opponent at what you're supposed to do: winning a fight under a specific ruleset. Even in the streets you have rules; no guns i.e.

The outpointed fighter is always free to simply say: Fuck points, I'm gonna knock this mofo out!

If he can't, he's getting beat. In a fight. He can't do shit about it.

Pointfighter is making him his bitch. Winning the fight.
