"I would totally tap out"- Mike Tyson

Mike is just being humble. I'm sure he would have done fine in MMA if he trained in the required disciplines. The guy was maybe not the toughest compared to other pro Fighters but he is still up there and his Athletecism and skill was something special.

Mike's just super self effacing in his older age. He's always taking the high road regarding hypothetically competing in MMA.

I still disagree with Teddy Atlas and his "Mike never won a hard fight" hot take but maybe I just love Iron Mike too much too agree
Yeah his podcast with Rogan was pretty awesome. He has released a lot fo anger. Probably did some shrooms with ole Maelstrom. Nice av btw
Seeing Mike Tyson this happy makes me happy. :)
Good on you man. Keep that positive shit up!

I agree with you, Tyson destroyed plenty of tough guys, he just overwhelmed them with sheer Athletecism and skill so fast that they couldn't get comfortable. Alot of those guys had huge frame advantages like being taller and generally having a more adapt and common frame for hw. Mike deserves alot of credit for what he did, he was truly special. If it was so easy we would see more small framed athletic Fighters do what he did, except we don't.

I don't fully agree with him having no heart and think that's a bit of a myth

He took a hell of a beating from Douglas, Lewis and Holyfield before going down

He was completely shot by the time he fought Williams and McBride

The only fight he quit was the rematch with Evander

I think he lacked a plan B, when things were not going his way, but look at the beating he took from Lewis

Even Lennox acknowledges how much heart Mike showed in that fight. He took one hell of a beating.

Tyson is easily the most over/under rated fighter of all time.

Fanboy's think he was invincible at his peak

Others think he crumbles with the first sign of adversity

Both statements are wrong

The Douglas loss never should've happened. Not only did Tyson not train at all for that fight, but Douglas wasn't up until 13 due to a bad count on the ref's part. So, as you said, he took quite a beating, completely out of shape, and, even though it wasn't official, stopped a Douglas that was in the best shape of his life. He has more heart than he gets credit for.

You also made an excellent point with him being the most over/underrated boxer at the same time. Honestly, the Iron Mike that used to go run at 4 in the morning "because the other guy ain't", was pretty fucking beast. If he kept that level of discipline and dedication throughout his career, I don't know if he would've lost to Holyfield or Lewis.

He was tough as hell, and he had plenty of heart. When his discipline slipped is when he started slipping. You can see it as far back as the Berbick fight. He destroyed Berbick, but he looked sloppy doing it and he clearly wasn't the same guy he started out as.

People forget he was a small heavyweight. You have to be sharp to even compete with some of those monsters, especially when you're always giving up height and reach...most of the time, weight too.

Thanks for the insightful reply to my post

I couldn't agree with you anymore

If the guy had of remained with Rooney and trained properly, he would of easily gone down as one of, if not the very best hw to ever lace them up

He only fought one way, but under Rooney he was very methodical about his approach and of course ferocious

He still had a great career, but it could of been so much more

I suppose him falling from grace and rising up to be the man he is today, Is a better story than an unstoppable fighter

I know Floyd and Conor have sold a more ppv in a couple of their fights, due to more availability and population increases. However, for anyone old enough to remember Tyson in his career, will tell you he was a much brighter star than both these guys

He really was the most famous sportsman in the world, not just fighter.

Nice convo from you two. Can see the adults on the site pretty quickly. During the 90's everyone knew Tyson's name. He has one of the best highlights in combat sports history. Big monsters were scared of him. He struck fear into most in his prime. Dont care if Floyds undefeated, I will never consider the Goat to be someone who doesn't have a killer instinct and for a time in sporting history they dominated like no other.

its honestly so good to see him so high spirited and humble, seems like he is a really chill dude at peace with himself.... love me some tyson!

Agreed. If a guy like Tyson came along now, he would outsell Floyd and Conor. The guy hasn't fought in almost 20 years, and there isn't a place in the world you can go where people don't know who he is.

Dana White said they have all kinds of celebrities, athletes, etc walking around backstage at ufc events, but Tyson is the only guy the other fighters turn into fangirls over.

There is nobody like him now, not even fucking close

I bet a lot of kids think Fury, Wilder and Aj would beat him lol

mike tyson is still to this day the most terrifying fighter in all combat sports history, this dude was a total monster.

didnt he also say that rhonda could beat him? idk ... but i do remember that he said some rediculus shit about rhonda.

Agreed, he faced plenty of guys who met him with resistance. Evander and Lewis just also happened to be all time greats when Tyson was still competing, Tyson could of had competitive fights with other notable contenders like Morrison, Mercer, Foreman, Tua etc. He was pretty mentally shot by that time anyway, the wheels were slowly falling off.

Prime Iron Mike would get angry AF and try to kill his opponent by any means, martial or war arts it doesn't matter, he turns into a real life warrior. Afterwards he might rape women and eat his opponents children. I don't buy what he's saying nowadays, it's the toad talking, it tells lies.

Fuck teddy and his bitch ass smear campaign.

My 96 year old japanese grandma knows Mike Tyson at least by name. Might even recognize his face on TV.
The man is the face of combat sports for generations.

If Mike Tyson started MMA at a young age he has the genetics to be a champ. Just like a bunch of genetically gifted NFL players. But he was only a boxer and prime Tyson with only his boxing knowledge would get raped.

Because boxing isn't MMA. Not sure if you guys have watched boxing but it's an entirely different sport.

Right? To think a man who was losing a boxing match so he resorted to biting someones fuckin ear off would tap out to a stomp on the foot is laughable.
I think the main reason he bit his ear was due to a bunch of headbutts. Not condoning it, but Holy field wasn't exactly a holy man that fight either

Yeah I think this is exactly what happens when your testosterone declines. Not only your appearance changes but also your personality. You become this agreeable jolly old man. Testosterone makes you suppress your fear. Mikes been a vegan for years. Big mistake. It took away his manhood
Tyson still wrecks you. He is very humble but he is still Mike Tyson. He has the ability to drop all the tough guy BS because not even drunken idiots are picking a fight with Tyson. You refer to him as agreeable and jolly-so happy with his life and then basically call Tyson a soy boy. I am not a fan of preachy Vegans they suck but IDK haven't heard Tyson preach about his vegan lifestyle in hour long podcasts.....
