Garry is actually a really high level fighter with a style that’s great at neutralizing opponents’ games. Definitely not my favorite style to watch, but he does deserve some props.
conditioning wasn't there? huh? It's his first time going 5 rounds, maybe the hugging wore him out a bit
People that were surprised with the fight haven't been paying attention and watching the fights. Garry has a very high fight IQ. We saw Shavkat vs Neal. There are holes in his game. Garry has been getting better. He's a dangerous fighter and a problem for anybody. Belal is the wildcard. I think what's his name beats either guy right now.I don't know if it's just the fickle mma fan in me now, or if I just need to give Garry credit, but damn that was an extremely underwhelming and rough performance by Rakhmanov.
I know Ian poses some problems on the feet with his movement, length and quickness, so it's understandable that output was lower than usual. Butttttttt... the grappling is the concern. Shavkat landed like 1 out of 8 TDs or some shit and got his back took too.
Dawg, if Ian Garry is taking your back and squeezing a RNC, imagine the success Belal will have once that ass is on the mat.
I'm shocked.

No I thought shav did well it ended up being him pushing and being the only aggressor . I can see why Ian is undefeated he fights way to safe if you understand the sport you'd see that.I don't know if it's just the fickle mma fan in me now, or if I just need to give Garry credit, but damn that was an extremely underwhelming and rough performance by Rakhmanov.

No no man, he won against another undefeated prospect "He'S eXpOsED!"Finally a reasonable, non casual take
Garry and Belal both walk around 180 when they're in the cage, i doubt the strength difference is something drastic. Sure Shavkat got a bit tired towards the end of the fight, but calling it trading hugs means you probably never appreciated Randy fights lol.He wasn't trading hugs with a powerhouse wrestler though. It was Ian Garry.

The Belal fight will look completely different. Belal isnt a threat on the feet like Ian is, Shavkat was methodical and won the fight how he had to, finding a way around Ian's underrated grappling defense. I thought Shavkat was going to submit Garry in the 3rd or 4th, but the experience they had sparring eachother is as valuable as two training camps combined, so I was not surprised that Garry was able to defend efficiently and even sneak in some good offense such as his quick head kicks. A good amount of people claimed Ian would be too quick for shavkat and outpoint him from the outside, but Rakhmonov was able to take control of the fight and leave no doubt as to who won it, even with Ian's last burst of offense taking his back.
Belal in round 5 against Shavkat isn't going to look like Belal in round 5 against Leon. Shavkat has some great body work and I can already see the posts that will claim Belal gassed, completely overlooking half of Shavkats offensive striking game which stays pretty consistent. Belal isnt a slick, tall, rangy in and out striker like Garry, he's going to take a lot more shots, a lot more damage.
I still think he's going to tear Belal's apart and the fairweather fans in this thread will be back on the hype train hoping this thread and others like it get deleted.
Crazy that GSP would still be champion in this division in his prime.
