I love how this sport ALWAYS ends up exposing the less-than-elite

Ok folks. The lesson we need to all take away from this...and it's been proving itself since UFC 1....

Tattoos, beards and shit talking doesn't make you a great fighter. It makes you no different than the fat drunks at the bar watching UFC who never trained.

There are different tiers to this sport and it's called mixed "martial arts"....not bearded tattooed kickboxing. And the sport will always expose those who don't belong in the tier they are in. UFC is...or is supposed to be...the elite of the elite.

I have nothing but love for the fighters...but I've been sickened by the game of it inching towards WWF status. I'm a nobody....brown belt in bjj under a Gracie affiliate and 1-1 amateur MMA...so I have no room to talk who belongs and who doesnt. I dont belong there. But I HATE that the showmanship has become a factor at all in who does. It shouldn't be.

But then I love the sport again because you see someone on the elite level who maybe isn't on that level in 1 of the crucial elements....and it shows. Especially in grappling. If you aren't a purple belt in bjj or didn't wrestle in college you shouldn't even be fighting ANY kind of MMA in my opinion, and I heard that from Relson Gracie...and have believed it since. The freaking UFC?? Maybe it's just me...but the elite of the elite of the elite fighters in martial arts square off....no one's ground game should be subpar. And between some of what we've seen lately....not to mention the abomination of grappling display Kimbo vs Dada showed....it seems promoters are more concerned with hype than quality.

Just my 2 cents.

Are there even "elite" fighters in MMA then? Cause everyone in MMA loses, usually in pretty embarrassing ways. Even Jones was "exposed" when he fought "a fighter his own size" in Gus.

Sounds like you haven't been watching combat sports very long. Its not "inching towards WWF status". Combat sports have always involved heavy trash talk and big personalities. And if you beat Aldo you are elite

Also LOL at you pointlessly dropping that you are a BJJ brown belt under a Gracie affiliate.

its cool there will always be fighters who dont go the WWE route, diaz let conor do the talking for him, he just responded and in the end he took his aura, took a lot of his fans, and now he is the king that people will be wanting to watch in the next fight no matter what

Nate is not one of those that doesn't "go the WWE route". He talks more trash (nothing wrong with that) then anyone besides Conor and has plenty of WWEesc antics, like starting a brawl after a fight he wasn't even in.

Also enough with this trash talk=WWE shit. Its more Boxing then WWE

Going 7-1 in the UFC with wins over Aldo, Mendes, Holloway and Poirier is pretty elite

Sadly every year the sport of mma is inching closer to sport's entertainment.

Exactly. I mean, was Penn not elite because he moved up and got his ass kicked by the bigger GSP? I know GSP is way better then Nate, but still

actually ive never seen the diaz bros trashtalk fighters who didnt start trashing them first or who they didnt have some sort of beef with, if you are cool with them they are cool with you 99% of the time.

they are straight Gs tho and will meanmug you and flip you off during the fight to throw you off your game, different ballgame than talking shit in a pressconference where you are protected

Conor Mcgregor destroyed the FW division, stepped up a weight class to fight Nate, lost, and that means he got exposed?

What did GSP ever do to the Diaz brothers? GSP was a big fan of theirs. And didn't Nate call Conor out first? You are delusional. The Diaz brothers are as "WWE" as it gets right down to charging the ring and starting fights after the bell.

What a horrible thread. You're actually comparing Conor, a man who has been training martial arts for more than a decade, to fat drunks who have never trained in their life?

You should be banned.

If you're in the UFC and ranked top 10, you're fighting killers every time out. This isn't boxing where you can pick and choose and have 'warm up fights'. This isn't PRIDE where you're fighting a killer one fight and getting a break the next fight. It's a murderer's row. These top 10 guys this forum loves to hate on are probably one of the top twenty people on the planet at that weight.

Getting exposed = Dominating and destroying your opponent for 2 rounds and then your opponent gets lucky because you fatigue badly. EXPOSED indeed lol.

Where did my normal whitebelt go, I have had this shit since 2005

gsp being a fan of nick doesnt make nick a fan of the blanket , we saw how the fight went aswell, 25 minutes of blanketing

conor deserved to be called out after all the shit he slung at his fellow fighters

People love to keep bringing that up, like Conor is anywhere near Jones level. Screw the shit talking Olympics. Jones is arguably the greatest fighter on the planet right now. Conor DOES look like a fucking pretender, compared to what Jones has accomplished.

guess guys in the NFL aren't elite because they lose sometimes

Well that has nothing to do with what we were talking about but... Half the fight was on the feet and Nick went 100% defensive mode on the ground. GSP vs Condit was a great fight because Condit attacked off his back with subs, sweeps and strikes. Nick just tried to defend and literally crawled away from the fight. He knew he was outmatched and just went into defending mode. He did the same thing vs Condit. After getting frustrated in the first two rounds he stopped attacking (or gassed) and just stood there. Same with Anderson, he fought completely different then normal and just waited almost never attacking. Thats one thing i gotta give to Nate. Even when he is outmatched or losing he keeps on coming, unlike his big brother who folds when he is outmatched
