"I have no obligation to win. . . " Shogun??

He's responding to the psychology of putting too much pressure on himself and then having to deal with the disappointment of defeat.
I think some of you are misinterpreting him.

Taking it the way you put it, it's the opposite of how a fighter should think.

I hope this is his last fight, win or lose.

Shogun has always said that. I remember him saying the exactly same thing during his pride days. "I don't have the obligation to win, but I have the obligation to give my best". Honestly, there's nothing wrong with it.

Are you guys for F*'ing real?

And you call yourselves a fan?

it is obvious that he is simply stating that this fight is not a do-or-die (or in this case a win or get cut by Zuffa) type of fight!

I agree with him. His job is NOT in jeopardy if he gives Zuffa a show, whether he wins the fight or not.

He is a legend, and his job is obviously secured in Zuffa.

And I don't question his drive & Motivation.

I simply think he didn't evolve much from his time with pride, and this is why he is not as good as he once was...

Shogun is a legand, i dono how you can call yourself an mma fan and not like to watch him.... Go back to watching wwf or whatever its called these days where the guy who talks the best actually matters

Da derp de derp da teetily derpee durp

And it seems like he lacks the year round conditioning and diet regimes needed to compete with the best of his division.

He always has lacked them. Only difference is that at age 24 he was so ridiculously gifted that it usually didn't matter.

Cut to 185 would be huge for him imo. I hope he does it. We all seen how Machida looked in his last fight. Jones and Gus make Shogun and Machida look likd Middle weights so it should be an obvious choice.

It mean serious dieting and training and a real weight cut for weigh ins though. It's more work and dedication for sure.

Even a sloppy Shogun beats Te Huna up. That comment can be interpreted several ways, but I hope he hasn't started to dwell on his glory days.

Well, I guess technically he doesn't... But has he enjoyed getting his ass kicked lately?

In before 100 War Shogun posts and a lot of other fanboys who sound very...suspect

Wow. Would you fucking retards read the actual quote? As others have stated it was a quote directly related to his upcoming fight.

He means he has no obligation to try and go out there and win for the fucktards who think he's washed up and has something to prove....he's only obligated to go out and do the best he can.

He needs to retire and save himself from taking any further damage .

I fear for Shogun's life every time he steps inside the Octagon these days.

I know shogun has declined a lot. That being said, I love how his record in the ufc looks like a chess board and people play the ''washed up'' card. Maybe Pride was not so awesome after all and maybe he was not a world beater. Still he's top 3 lhw all time.

Wow, you shogun fans just don't rest, do you? We can't be a fan of mms, as a whole, if we're not a fan of a guy who is slow, sloppy, has no cardio, and only head hunts in every fight he's in? A guy whose best fight in the past several years was a loss to an equally slow, sloppy, head hunting, over the hill Dan Henderson? I realize shogun used to be awesome...but to say people can't be fans of mma if they don't enjoy watching the way he fights now is just idiotic

He turned 32 yesterday he's a young man
He still has a lot of fights left in him

War Shogun, fuck the haters, can't wait to see the boards explode when he gets a 1st round vicious (T)KO
