I used to train my calves really hard because I wanted them to be bigger and also wanted to jump higher.
But eventually I gave up because
a. They never get much bigger
b. You never jump much higher
c. Why the fuck did I need to jump high anyway? I'm not an athlete.
yeah.. I think it has a lot to do with bodyfat distribution.Calf size is so much genetics related it seems to me. You're either born with meaty calves or you aren't. I honestl'y don't see a direct correllation to athletic performance and having meaty calves either. Seems to me that this particular muscle doesn't change much in size with relation to strength. It just is what it is.
Calves are more like the forearm. Quads are more like the bicep. You're understanding of anatomy is questionable bro.
Hamstrings are the biceps of the legs. They flex the knee joint; the biceps flex the elbow joint. Just not as showoffy.Calves are the biceps of the legs. Quads are hidden in shorts unless you dress like a native San Franciscan.
Still the bicep gets the credit. When someone says make a muscle, no one flexes their tricep. They do a bicep pose.Well, I mean, technically, the largest muscle in the arm is the Tricep, so....
I disagree.....people compliment my calves all the time. Women notice everything....there was this huge dude on the beach and a few women in our group remarked...”Nice body but toothpick legs”.i agree size doesn’t affect athletic ability....most of the nba have tiny skinny calves.I think it's one of those things that men who exercise will notice more than anyone else. Women and other people who aren't into lifting won't notice. And as far as for athletic ability it doesn't really help much. If you only care about athletic function, just run and skip rope, if you have genetics for big calves they will get big just from that, if you don't then they won't but so what?
Absolutely fucking not. With fat you get cancles. Also what you posted is not "well developed calves", those are monster steroid-induced calvesyeah.. I think it has a lot to do with bodyfat distribution.
Calves are one of those parts of the body that look better with some fat around. Let's be fair.. ever well developed calves look even uglier than no calves:

Thick quads and small calves. What do you guys think about that? Calves are overrated?
