I have a feeling the backlash will cause Diaz/McGregor 2 to be scrapped from UFC 200

what backlash? In what form, I dont get it... The fans would be so outraged that the whole event would fail?

Heard it here first (ok maybe not first....)

Have you seen all the feedback? It's almost entirely negative.....only reason to even have it is the 1.5 mil buys UFC 196 did, and you could certainly argue a stacked card with some title fights headlining (including 145) and Nate still on the card could do just as well, with fights that actually make sense and have more consequences than two guys fighting out of their weight class who just fought (and it wasn't even that competitive). Also it seems like they'd have announced it by now, as I said in an earlier thread, and they haven't, and the more neghative reactions that come in I think the more they are prone to reconsider.

Let's hope.

Agree or disagree?

I just think the negative voice is being heard more. I'm sure that there are millions that are thrilled at the idea of a full press conference/media tour and a disciplined camp for each guy. I know I am.

Backlash is primarily from the die hard MMA community.

Casuals will eat that shit up like a 4 star buffet.

Seeing how a 10 day notice fight nearly broke the PPV record, UFC execs are foaming at the mouth at what several MONTHS of cutting promos, calamity-riddled conferences, shit talking and near-brawls will do to sell the rematch.

This. Add to it the dynamic between McGregor and Diaz. Diaz, despite victorious, is oddly bitter in hindsight. McGregor, although the winner, is likely going to be extremely confident and focused. It's going to be an awesome conference/promo tour and the footage from the fight is going to make the ads fucking nastty.

If Holly would have won we wouldn't even be having this conversation.

THANKS MEISHA TATE.

To everyone commenting on what "backlash" I'm talking about - no not just Sherdog. Anywhere on social media, any MMA news site/blog/podcast - the reaction is almost universally "wtf?" Also, just the random banter about it heard at the gym or from training partners, which many of you would know nothing about because you're just keyboard warriors talking shit on the internet. Is normal.

For those of you giving intelligent responses, I hear you. I agree on the $ part as I said in OP - but the fight also makes no sense and if Conor loses again which he very well could their goes the golden calf. It'd make more sense to have him get some wins and hype up an even bigger rematch w Nate. They are rushing it for 200, makes no sense

Something is holding it up I think it's either Conor or Nate wanting more money

I think the UFC is trying to milk Conor for all he's worth fast but if he loses again, toss him to the side putting him on Overeem status. They are rolling the dice on him.

Why?

Conor put the cart before the horse and talked big...for GOOD reason. He's a good fighter that talked his way into becoming a star with the skills to back it up.

However, he's not invincible. He can, have, and will lose. The UFC has more money to make NOW in throwing him in there with Nate NOW again than any other fight. If Nate beats him again, they'll do him like Overeem in 2013-14. If Conor wins, there's a hell of a lot of future money to make off him.

As a fan, I don't like at all. I would rather see McGregor/Edgar or Aldo or RDA but it is what it's gonna be.

I honesty think if two guys want to fight each other and it is going to sell well and makes sense for them being fighters as a profession that they should be allowed to by the people that promote them.

There thinking about it but no, they don't have options.. sucks but this UFC 200 looks to be lackluster.

The thing is there is only backlash among hardcore fans like on Sherdog. The vast majority of people who purchase PPVs are not hardcore fans but casuals. Those people don't even know who Diaz is and probably see the Conor fight as a huge fluke.

It's like the millions of people who bought Mayweather/Pac and then complained when Mayweather fought like Mayweather.

They are there for the event and spectacle and not out of appreciation for the sport. So Dana is going to cash in on the casuals interest as long as he can, especially with the financial and critical success of 196.

Everyone is talking as if it's official...it's not yet. Until it's officially announced, stop acting like it's so farfetched that we get something else. Or they would've announced it already. Until they make it official, BOTH sides of this debate are merely speculation.

Even Diaz is questioning this shit, saying " Why does Conor get a rematch and Aldo doesn't?".
If the fight does happen, it would be one of the worst moves the UFC has made in recent years. And that's saying a lot.

And if it happens, I hope Conor gets trashed again. Dana would be so sore.

What backlash? Fools complaining on here? Get over yourselves.

Thank you, excellent point. To those saying what backlash? Nate himself is like wtf....in addition to the other sources of backlash (not Sherdog) I mentioned earlier. Not gonna retype/quote it for every retard reactionary poster too lazy to read the thread they're commenting on.

Come back after UFC 200 is over and we'll tell you how Diaz/McGregor2 went.

Half the threads on this forum the last week have been about this fight, whether positive or negative.

The thing about fight promotion is that it's not the hardcore fans like us they need to appeal to (we'll watch anyway), it's the folks who can take it or leave it who make viewing figures up to the big numbers - and the more people are talking about it, and the more coverage it gets; the more it'll sell to those people.

Cash is king...but putting belt on the line would probably sell more...

No backlash, fans are going to watch it regardless or not. It's just bad for the fighters waiting for him down in 145 if he don't vacate the belt.
