I Hate John Cena

His mic work is decent, but not particularly exceptional. You could really see the difference on the mic when he worked those WM programs with The Rock, Rocky was in a whole other league.

I remember the complete opposite. Cena dumpstered The Rock regularly when they cut promos face to face. The classic one was when Cena butchered The Rock so bad on the mic when he roasted The Rock for having a team of writers and notes on his wrist, The Rock started to stumble on his words and the crowd started to boo The Rock and laugh at him. You could tell The Rock got worked into a shoot and was legit pissed off <Lmaoo>

Hate is a strong word... And I wish there was a stronger word to describe the way I despise him...

I used to hate him, then learned to love him.

He's a good dude and becoming a pretty solid comedic actor.

Never was a fan either. From what I understand, his work ethic is insane and like others said, his Make-A-Wish stuff is pretty amazing.
As a performer though? I didn’t think a lot of his in-ring work, but he was perfectly fine as a heel I thought. His mic work is decent, but not particularly exceptional. You could really see the difference on the mic when he worked those WM programs with The Rock, Rocky was in a whole other league.
that's the interesting/ ironic thing about Cena's later feud with Reigns, Cena looked like the best thing on a mic wrestling had ever seen in that, at least compared to sufferin' succotash Roman lol.

I do think his promos improved over time, he does that inspirational shit well even if it's not my cuppa.

I was never a huge fan of Cena in the ring, back in the day, but his charity work is praiseworthy, and he's turned himself into a half decent actor.

John Cena has the record for the most Make A Wish wishes granted to sick and dying children, I'll cheer for that dude no matter what he does

i can’t imagine the emotional toll it must take to continually connect with children who are critically ill. For all the criticisms people have for Cena, his philanthropic volunteer work is undeniably magnificent.

The WWE as a whole has done so much great work with Make a Wish over the years. Really a great thing.

I agree I always thought he cuts horrible promos. Maybe it works for like 8 year old kids they were trying to appeal to but i never found him engaging.

Even though he is very unorthodox I think his in ring work is his strong spot. His matches with Edge, CM Punk, HBK and some others were fantastic.

I would rank Cena around number 10 probably as best WWE champs because of his longevity and his occasional great matches. And he sold a ton of merch

Yeah he def sold tons of merch. I saw Cena live in his heel persona at Vengeance 03 I think it was, against Taker. They had a great match. I don’t want to totally shit on his in-ring work because that’s not fair. But I always looked at his opponents: you mentioned HBK and Edge, and I’d add Kurt Angle, Rock, and Taker to the list. But all those guys are legends that can work a great match with most anyone. CM Punk too k suppose, I was just no longer a pro wrestling fan by the time he became a main event we so I didn’t see a lot of those matches.

I haven’t followed the business in years, but I agree from what I’ve seen. Compared to HBK, Angle, SCSA, Rock, Flair, Hogan, even HHH, Cena’s promos pale in comparison. But compared to the generations that came up after him, Cena’s promos are great. Everyone knows/says this, but over-scripting has really killed the ability of guys to cut promos. The Monday Night Wars were so great because it was live and you didn’t always know what would happen. Imagine if Nash and Hall had to cut promos like guys do today.

I must be in the minority here but I miss Cena I would take him any day over Roman Reigns right now.

Fucking this

That man has given back so much to fans
The guy was boring with his 5 moves of doom and predictable storylines. But you could make a strong argument for him as GOAT. Not as a wrestler, there he is way down the list, but for what he has done for the company, it's image, and all he's done for kids, he has contributed more than even Hogan or Flair

Hogan inspired a lot of kids.

Flair probably has a hundred kids.

not a huge fan of the wrestler but cant really hate the guy cause of his hard work and make a wish stuff.
has done some shady/sleezy stuff back stage but that seems to be par the course for stars in rassling.
Banging Mickie when she was with someone else etc

But he also sounds like hes tried to help others - he helped Elias with the Walk With Elias thing, helped Becky Lynch figure out her character etc

The guy went years being terrible, but then figured something out around 2010-2011. He's basically the greatest at the new wwe main event style of kicking out of 18 finishers and wrestling like a videogame. He also has always been a great promo even if I always saw him a tier 2 level guy below the likes of: Rock, Dusty, Flair and Austin. Big Match John gets my thumbs up.

It was a good back and forth both ways. The rock was part time and had a million other projects going on at the time, so we weren’t getting prime promo level rock. Where as cena had much more time to concentrate on the feud. And this is coming from someone who isn’t a big rock fan.
