I hate buying cars so much

That’s what you get dealing with a bunch of alcoholic high school dropouts

Was negotiating with a finance guy and he was saying I was taking money out of his pocket

Yeah, well, that money is mine, not yours you slimy pos, and good job losing the sale, you bozo

Awesome truck. Big enough and very functional. Toyota is a good build.

It is my second Toyota truck.
First one I bought brand new in 1990 ( yes, I am old) had 3 miles on it when I drove it off the lot.
Put over 350k in 27 years until some ass wipe t boned me on the way to work one morning. Was not afraid to dive that truck anywhere.

Then I used a broker to find this. He found a this 2002 Tacoma at Toyota dealership that some old guy traded in a few day before. It only had 70k on it and the price was a steal. The truck was Showroom condition! This was right before used car/truck took a dump.
Put Bilstein's on it and found a wrecked 1996 Land Cruiser and bought the wheels off and had the wheels refurbished. Then Cooper STT PRO tires.

The wheels are a nice touch along with the tires. Happy for you, brother.

Not sure if other car companies are doing this, but Honda has basically gone to JIT for inventory. They learned there is no need to keep a million cars on the lot. They can just give the impression of scarcity and take advantage of FOMO to jack up the price.

My wife has been eyeing a new vehicle.

A sales rep sent her a price for a vehicle that we were satisfied with.

We went in yesterday to firm up the deal, and then when we told him we were paying cash, he said it was going to cost $2,000 extra, unless we agreed to finance. He assured us it was an open term that we could pay off immediately and incur no interest. When I asked for this in writing, he refused.

Attempts to obtain any explanation for why they would need an extra $2,000 were met with nonsense and obfuscation.

It's such a slimy business.
You sound like a massive pussy
Grow a pair and go negotiate

Even worse is when the slimy finance managers try to sell you all of their extended warranties. When I bought my current Vette at the Toyota dealership... I had three salesperson rotate in and out of the room and try to bully me into buying about eight different extended warranties.

When I kept refusing them they tried every tactic... Including trying to make me feel bad, guilt me... You name it. I was so pissed by the time I left there. I wanted to knock out one of the finance managers since he was such a smug prick.

I will never recommend that dealer to anyone.. and they are a chain around LA. I took a huge shit on them on Yelp and Google too.... And normally I never leave reviews online.

When I went to buy my previous Vette a few years ago I saw a nice 2016 on a dealers website up in Van Nuys. I called them the day before I wanted to drive 2.5 hours up there to tell them I wanted to look at it.

I told the salesman on the phone... Call me and let me know if you sell the car tonight so I don't waste my time driving up there. He says sure.

I drive up there the next day when the dealer opens, and go figure... The car sold the night before. I was heated. I spoke to the sales manager who looked some 28 year old that was on a bender the night before. He tells me that he can't help it the car sold and they can't hold them. I was like no shit, I didn't expect you to hold it... I just wanted a fucking courtesy call to let me know to not waste my time driving up here. I know the salesman that I spoke to was there cause told me he was working till close.

Then they had the nerve to try to sell me other cars in the Russell Westbrook network of dealers. Again, will never recommend anyone go to his dealership.
out of curiosity, was it a galpin? lol

I run finance departments for car dealerships. You will never win. The system is never going to favor you. Your best bet is national lease programs that advertise low payments with 0 down. Honda and Nissan have legit deals right now. $299 0 down leases. All other deals are shit. When you grind the shot out of dealers, they just move money around and get you somewhere else. You are better off being honest of what you are willing to do and not budging from there.
i need to get me a car and im not seeing those deals at a local honda dealer. im under national deals and seeing 259/269 monthly with 3,200 down. if i lease i refuse to put anything down, is this asking too much?

Pretty scummy business, almost invariably.

Not sure how the financing works exactly, but i reckon they base the financing company in a tax haven. This means the dealer makes almost no money per sale and all the profits are made in the tax haven.

Just repaid my financing last week, 4 years at effectively about 1% pa.

Headline rate was 5%pa, but with financing i got a $2,000 discount and $2,000 worth of servicing. So yeah about 1% cost to me.

I do love how often they will tell you "the interest rate isn't important, it's the repayments that matter". If you ever hear that, know they're dodgy as fuck.

Nearly all car loans are simple interest and can be paid off immediately. Never stay you're paying cash, just take the loan from the dealer and pay it off the next day.

Careful with that advice.

Gotta check the don't just include interest even if paid off early. Some, maybe even most don't do that, but if they do you are royally fucked.

Specifically warned a friend about this, of course he didn't listen and it cost him $6k or so. He listens to me now.

Why wouldn't someone read the loan their signing? It's not rocket science.

Kind of slimy shit that happens in the USA where everything is hooked on debt. But that‘s fucking extreme. Not even sure that would be legal in Yurrp

Best thing is that a year from now you can register your ancient Toyota as a classic car.

Finance with pre existing creditor and payoff balance if thats possible.
Buy Japanese and don’t waste money on warranties for new vehicles (they are senseless waste of money and a huge moneymaker for dealerships)

3200 is absurd. But if that is the deal, they aren't taking 3200 off. I saw a few 0 down deals at 299....I think an HRV...They always want 1st payment. If you can get 299 with 999 out of pocket, you are in good shape.
