"I find difficult to sympathize with an individual who made 55k in 25 minutes."

I absolutely think OSP received more then 55k. Not a chance he wasn't taken care of for stepping up...

Yea...... there's two threads on this..... like I said......

Lol not bad TS. Greatly enjoyed the workplace pics.

Why didn't you just quote the guy lol

OSP got paid whatever he got paid for 3 weeks of work. Not a bad deal, but after all the taxes and paying his bum coaches it really isnt much. Only a handful of guys can set themselves up for life from MMA, and even then you'd have to be really smart with the money.

Didnt read all your post. But i saw the post you quoted from the guy,55k is a joke for a main eventer on a ppv that will earn millions. There should be a financial incentive for main eventing a card.None ppv card should be guaranteed pay of 150k min for both guys. And for ppvs there should be a guaranteed min of 300k.

To many fighters are getting shafted and you have moron fans saying they only worked for 25 mins.No they had to promote the fight/train for months prior and take time off after to heal up.The fighters deserve the fans backing them. There not greedy overpaid soccer players or nfl players who earn several hundred thousand a week. These guys get paid 2-3 times a year.

I know plenty of guys on the local circuits that fight pro and bring home 2k per fight. They hold other jobs while still pushing themselves mentally and physically. They do it for love of competition. Most people (especially if they are good enough to make money) dont get into fighting for the money.

I like this thread. I think it is very fair to post, merited. Respect.

The following quote was from a member here discussing OSP's pay for his fight with Jones. First things first, unless something has finally come out from OSP about pay, we don't really know if he got a PPV bonus or not. That said, the person who's quote I am discussing, was operating under the assumption that OSP was only paid 55k for the fight, which in his eyes is more than enough. Again, I am NOT trying to rehash the last two threads about how much OSP made. It's all been said. I'm just talking about the notion that Fighter A making 55k for a single fight is 'more than enough.'

As it's been stated, he probably got a PPV bonus, so it probably is more. But let's pretend for a moment that he did not get a PPV bonus, and that his fight wasn't even the main event.

Your idea that even just 55k is a lot for 25 minutes, shows a deep misunderstanding of the sport, that is objectively ignorant and shortsighted. If you think a fighter is only paid for "25 minutes" of work, then you really don't pay any attention to fighting, which is odd since you're a big enough fan to join a message board. Fighters don't simply wake up the morning of the fight and say "Well today is one of three days I work this year, honey... I'll see you when it get home!" There's weeks, and even months of preparing. They push themselves to their mental and physical breaking points day after day, and have their diet strictly monitored. And now with testing, some dude can just show up at their house at 6am and demand they piss in a cup in front of them.

Mr. Lawler slipped and fell into the copy machine. Twelve times in a row.

And then you have to consider the "work" that they do. This isn't sitting at a desk for a day, or even doing some heavy lifting at a blue collar job. Dude's are trying to kick their fucking heads in. Hell, OSP got his arm busted and kept "working" for the rest of his "shift." And on top of that, this arm fracture absolutely impacts his ability to "work" for months.

BJ Penn notices a coworker has had a really bad fall and helps him to his feet...

In short, the idea that a fighter only works for 15-25 minutes at time, 2-4 times a year, is preposterous. And the idea that their work is remotely like the average person's work is laughable. Until you have someone like Jones trying to kick your ribs, or Mark Hunt trying to crack your chin with a right hand, at your job on a regular basis, it's pretty safe to assume your job is not like theirs.

Mark Hunt reacts to news of his demotion.

Try to show some respect to the fighters that risk serious injury for our entertainment.

Nice thorough breakdown in your answer. The person who said that quote is an idiot. There are plenty of them on this forum.

You are definitely NOT one of them.

People find it difficult to sympathize with a guy making "55k in 25minutes."
But people find it easy to side with the shady billionaires that make many times that off the blood and brain cells of the former group. Systemic corporate brainwashing.

I wish i got 55k for avoiding a fight and backing away every time there was a exchange

Sorry if I find it hard to sympathize with someone who made 55k in 25 minutes.

I know plenty of guys on the local circuits that fight pro and bring home 2k per fight. They hold other jobs while still pushing themselves mentally and physically. we would have a better product if they got paid more as higher calibre athletes would want to make a living doing this as oppose to amateurs with part time jobs. i dont mean amateur in a condescending way just that the people you are talking about are doing it for the experience of being a fighter the way some guys join local sports teams. they arent going the actively trying to become the best in the world to the point of not distracting themselves with regular jobs. could we get manny pacquiao or mike tyson or muhammad ali type of guys for 10k to show? its embarrassing lol

You couldn't have just added this to that thread? You'll probably come up with some snarky response, but what about this warranted ANOTHER thread?

It's the thread count police. Don't like it, don't read it - he's picking a point from another thread to highlight it.

Stupid thread. These are fighters not doctors or scientist. They embark on a primal sport . The pay scale works the same of a sales commission agent= you get paid what you put in it. I don't see Connor complaining about the pay lol

Well he can probably can get laid after the club if he's recognized or mistaken for someone else since blacks all look alike (wink, wink). How many people get to do that?

All jokes aside, I assume he loves to fight, and he got paid to do what he loves. Seriously, how many people get to do that?

The world ain't fair because if it was, teachers would make tons more money for teaching and basically providing child care. On top of that they often take their work home too. Cops would get paid more because although most are dicks and respond to bull shit 90% of the time, 10% of the time their life could be at risk, and all it takes is that one time, and can you put a price on that?

I assume fighters get their 1099 and they can deduct all their training expenses therefore do not get taxed 40% lol

Well you have to consider that most men in uniform are not on the front lines. And you have to consider that some of them would do it for pretty much free, as they're motivation is built on ideology, not capitalism.

Then you have to consider that most fighters don't fight Jon Jones or Mark Hunt. And you have to consider that some of them would fight for pretty much free, as their* motivation is built on competition and being a martial artist, not capitalism.
