They are VERY similar situations, all four are considered GOAT level in their weight classes, and Stipe was super old and inactive just like GSP, with the younger more active fighter being from the lower weight class. The difference is Jones moved up happily and destroyed Stipe with ease, while Khabib chose to make the fight not happen at all due to his ridiculous and unreasonable demands.

And yet JONES is somehow the one that took more flack for it, exposing the disturbing emotional bias that blinds rationality of most MMA fans, reducing them to the level of children thinking of Jokes as the diabolical supervillain and Khabib as their favorite superhero: one can do no right and the other can do no wrong.

He was under no obligation to fight gsp, this wasn't a aspinall/Jones situation.

What you and many others in this thread are conveniently forgetting is that KHABIB CALLED OUT GSP, DIRECTLY, FOR A FIGHT.

Notice I have not same a damn thing about Khabib being obligated to move up and fight prime Usman or anything like that, it's specifically about the GSP fight.

The other weird thing is people keep bringing up GSP vs Anderson, as if that changes the reality of Khabib vs GSP. I swear it's like dealing with little kids, one kid does something wrong and then their response is to point to their sibling and say "but he did it too!"

Go ahead and criticize GSP for not fighting Anderson if you want. Huge difference in that situation though as Anderson was active and in his prime whereas GSP vs Khabib is inactive and far past it.

But major respect to Anderson in that scenario because he was willing to cut to 170 to fight GSP, I'm not sure if a lot of people remember that. He was like the original Dillashaw vs Cejudo, willing to make a huge cut to challenge the champ below.

Basically, GSP was leaving the scene — before Khabib was actually arriving at his.

I believe the two actually wanted to fight each other, that they each deeply respected the other, but (as far as I know) it was the UFC who made the meeting unfeasible.

To this day, I think both still deeply respect each other, and sort of regret not having the green light to actually face each other on mutually agreeable terms.

Khabib's peak was 2019, GSP's peak was 2013.

As a big Khabib fan, I don't think he could have beaten prime GSP.

Aldo lost the belt in 2015 and Khabib won the belt in 2018. There was no overlap. Aldo was already a bantamweight by then.
