They both looked pretty soft at those weights (especially BJ, obviously)
Thats "normal" for modern MMA, a few MW´s fight heavier than that.Fact everyone saying Jiri should fight at MW, 23 pounds lighter than his fight weight, shows how mental cutting is these days.
I would only consider official data, just like some brag about how heavy they are after the fight. What about vegan Jon Fitch who claimed he only cut like 4lbs as a vegan……
23 pounds isnt that much for someone who is over 200 pounds.Fact everyone saying Jiri should fight at MW, 23 pounds lighter than his fight weight, shows how mental cutting is these days.
Good booking isn’t always getting the most competitive matchups available. A lot of the time it’s about showcasing guys you want to build up and letting the older generation pass some of their rub onto the newer one. It was a mismatch for sure but I think the UFC just wanted to show off Cormier, which this fight did. Dan was on the way out after losing 3 straight before stopping Shogun but he was still well known enough they wanted to squeeze as much out of him as they could.Just want to note, the 199lbs against Cormier... that was Dan fully fed and hydrated.
He was on camera on the fight week blogs eating full meals. He also noted he made a point to get his water/food weight up.
That fight was a really dumb booking, even by UFC standards.
