What do you mean by respectful and waited for Jones to fight Stipe? That is basically what he did for a while, its been a full year since the pull out, Aspinal even defended the Interim belt in the mean time, he is indeed waiting for Jones.

Now, in the fighting game being "respectful" doesnt really get things done, and even fans fall for the drama instead, Jones wouldnt fought him anyway, why? At one point he was scheduled to fight Stipe but got injured, in his return fight he still chose the original fight, does it count as ducking? Not quite, to be honest, he is fighting the fight that was made in the first place, before Aspinall was the next guy, cause he wasnt, he wasnt the backup back then, he fought the backup and won, after Stipe is Jones ducking Aspinall? Yes, badly, but the guy has still a big (old) fish to fry first, then the ducking will actually happen.

Should Tom have to approach it a certain way to get Jon to agree? Probably not.

Might it work better if he did anyway? Probably.

Sometimes to get what ya want ya gotta play the game. It's a fact of life whether you're dealing with Jon Jones, dumbasses here, or bosses at work.

Hard no. It's just a disingenuous tactic to makes excuses not to fight.
Careers and fame, including Jones', were made on talking shit and asking for fights. . . and suddenly Jones calls it out when there's a prime legit HW contender.

I've heard mention of this word called "ducking", and in any other context you would absolutely admit that a (lol "interim") HW champ calling out the "Champ" and demanding a fight is normal. Not "being an asshole". Give me a break.

Jones is pretty much retired and he is picking his fights. The UFC needs to offer him more money to take that fight. I don't believe Jones is scared but why take the harder fight with Aspinall when he can fight a LHW that can't wrestle. The fight with the LHW will also pay more in terms of PPV points.

A victory over either men doesn't mean anything. People will say Aspinall is a bum or Alex is old and can't wrestle. The real champ will default back to Francis.
