We often read that Woodley is ducking Wonderboy, that GSP ducked Anderson his entire career, that Anderson ducked Jones etc.. This is supposed to mean that they are "afraid" of these opponents and want to avoid them.

First of, in the case of GSP and Anderson, that is not called ducking. They were champs of their respective weightclass. They didn't duck shit, they were CHAMPS. So if they don't want to foolishly risk their health or credibility moving up a weightclass it's their choice.

Then in the case of Woodley, how is beating one of the baddest man in the planet in the name of Robbie makes him a coward ? Maybe he's a calculated guy, and maybe some of us were pissed off when he waited to get his title shot but guess what, MMA is a risky sport, and you want to get to the top and makes money while you're still fresh.

Now people say he's supposedly afraid of Wonderboy ? Of course he does not want to risk his belt yet, (cause every fight you risk it), he wants to get big paydays like the diaz bros. He's no fool. He knows a fight against GSP would "break the UFC bank" as he said, and represents more benefits than facing Wonderboy already. He will fight Thompson one day if he stays champ, and he knows that.

That's why i believe that there is no such thing as ducking when you're the champ

GSP ducked Silva. He couldn't lay and pray him.

Agreed in case of Silva, GSP and Jones. Moving up weight classes shouldnt be an expectation unless you consistently fail to make weight but Woodley is ducking the rightful contender in his own weight class. If he wants to make lots of money then he should beat the rightful contenders first and then ask for the big money fights. Right now it seems like he just wants to make as much money as possible before losing because he knows he'd get wrecked by the rightful number 1 contender.

Tito was the champ and ducked Chuck for years. They created a interim title and had Chuck vs. Randy for this. Randy won so Tito fought Randy. Lost to Randy and didnt fight Chuck until years later.

I dont like the word "ducking" it should be called Getting Paid, Tyron did whatever he belived would generate the most amount of imcome for him.
Hell yes you should avoid wonderboy if you want to keep the belt for as long as possible and have a chance of fighting a big star like GSP or Diaz.

What about when Woodley wanted no part of Lombard?

Tyron "The Choosing One" Woodley

Go back and experience Chuck's rise through the LHW rankings and Tito's cowardice as LHW champ if you think champions don't duck.

"duck" is just a word. It can be used to mean anything someone wants it to mean. It's best to respond to people's meaning rather than their words.

People generally use the word to refer to fighters avoiding fights, for whatever reason.

One can duck because they want an easier fight
One can duck because they want a bigger fight
One can duck because they want a more exciting fight
One can duck because they don't want to fight a training partner

They're ducks all the same. Some of those reasons can be more justifiable than others.

When you try to avoid the top contenders at the same weight class that you are the champion of, that is called ducking. I'm not saying Woodley is scared to get beat up. He's scared to lose the belt without making money first, like you said. That is still fear and it's still rooted in him recognizing the very real possibility that Wonderboy beats his ass.

Well I certainly think that the word "ducking" is used way too freely around here. Just because a fighter doesn't rush to take a fight you want him to take does not mean he is ducking. In my opinion it's only ducking if it's a fight you really should take based on sound sporting logic and you persistently decline/choose to do other things. If you are available and keep making excuses to not fight the number one contender then that is ducking.

Some people believe that the earth is flat. People believe stuff...

you're applying your own definition to ducking to argue against yourself. Ducking means avoiding someone, Woodley is avoiding Wonderboy, Bisping is avoiding the top 10, Jones avoided Gustafsson and Rashad. There are, like, 3 or 4 great fighters in history who legitimately avoided nobody

This is MMA, and he is a fucking CHAMP.

A Champion is supposed to be the baddest man on the division, and the guy that could win against the top Contenders.

What kind of champ is he? Choosing when to fight and who to fight, just to win money?

Just like Conor McChicken, ducking the FW division only to have adventures outside of it?
