Lol. It looked like when he didn't have the belly he was afraid to lose so he center became the decisionator. Once he had the belt then he took more risks. The only fight he fought safe during his title run was the first Masdival and the Leon rematch. Everything else he said fuck it

People initially didn't like him because he was a bit cringe in his interviews early on in his career and people tend to want a reason to hate dominant champions that are really confident.

I think people also mistook his confidence for cockiness.

His actions were always classy, he never ducked a fight, never made excuses, and took his KO loss with good humor.

On top of that, he took fights on short notice while not being 100% (shot knees) against TOP TIER competition in a HIGHER WEIGHT CLASS. I've come to really appreciate him as a really good champion and fighter that is durable, hits hard and dominant wrestler.

He ducked the Leon rematch for a while. Remember that burns only got a TS because Edwards was in London and international travel was heavily restricted because of COVID. So Leon was in the WW title picture for a while. Usman got to fight Colby and Masdival twice before the UFC finally getting Usman to fight Leon.
And then Usman lost to Leon.
