I am an ex-Scientologist. (LONG read)

I know all about scientology and how it rips off psychology techniques and it's polygraph machine to convince people to hand over their hard earned money. You know why? Because I study psychology!!!!

Hubbard is a sick fuck cultist and if you can't see that, then maybe you're one to.

So I take it you haven't read any of Mr. Hubbard's books then.

Hmmm..."sick fuck cultist", very mature.

I have read pieces, I know what the main idea is of his theory and it's about control, not about personal growth.

In fact, it's anti growth.

It's relevant to how far along you are in your brainwashing studies.

Really? What if I had donated large sums of money but hadn't done any studying of the subject itself. Might not be the indicator you should base such opinions on.

Wait a sec. (Was confused for a second.) Did you ask about money under the guise of a different screen name -"bobob"? I was hoping to get bobob's reason for the question since he asked it.

So what books have you read? Or what pieces of what books have you read.

What is the main idea? (If your saying "anti-growth" then I hate to say it but you may have missed many of the essential and fundamental principles. Or all of them for that matter.)

Also how are you defining 'control"? Seems like "control" is a pretty important element of life and when we don't have "control" then bad things can happen. But then again I don't know how you are using that word. Is it another slur?

That wouldn't happen though. You'd have to be brainwashed to donate large sums of money to the cult. You're putting the cart before the horse.

Just analyzing the behavior of the cults followers alone is enough info to extrapolate how the cult works.

People from all kinds of religions can still interact with others, scientologists seem to have trouble. At least the sea org types.

I'm surprised there are those defending Scientology, especially after all of their strong arm tactics against dissenters and law suit and law suit against others, let alone the ridiculous foundation of the "religion."

Interesting that you haven't answered my questions regarding what books you have studied. I'll assume from your lack of answers and your characterizations of what you think they state that you haven't read anything.

I seem to be able to interact with all types of people.

So exactly how have I been brainwashed?

How do you define "brainwashed"?

I've read several chapters of Dianetics, nothing of his sci-fi work.

I don't see how this question is relevant to my previous post.

You mentioned "the ridiculous foundation of the "religion."" so I was assuming you might actually have read a book or two on the subject by Mr. Hubbard. Was curious which ones.

Which chapters did you read?

You flood the dialogue question after question like an interrogation. You can't have a conversation like that.

Sorry - I try to reply to individual posts instead of lumping them all together. So easy to lose track of the various strands within a thread. So is this your yardstick by which you determine if a person has been brainwashed? Their posting style...or lack of.

Just to repeat:

I don't remember specifically which ones, but a lot of Hubbert posited as "science" was actually assumptions, and ideas taken from other psychologists and religions...

especially in regards to the dualistic concept of the mind.

What did you think about the first principle he based the book on?

What do you mean about the dualistic concept of the mind? Are you referring to the concept that there may be more to the mind than merely a physical brain? Maybe something spiritual? Or something else?

I have seen many of the ideas presented in Dianetics in other fields as well. In fact throughout all fields and areas of life that I have had a chance to look into. He discusses this in some detail in his book "Dianetics: The Evolution of a Science" (Originally not a book but a series of a articles.)

Nope I'm me, myself and I...all three.

The reason I asked was, as I stated previously, I lived in Clearwater. I found that many of the people were spending large sums of money on the courses that never seemed to end. I asked specifically about inheritance money since many of the people from Europe were unemployed yet had the air of money, while those from the states did not seem to be of the trust fund variety.

(edit: the latter group were those living in Clearwater as opposed to those visiting for various functions)

That makes sense. Certainly better than simply being accused of being brainwashed. Sure wish I had some rich family though:)
