I know why you're mad. It's not in our nature to feel numb to such things. But just for now. Just for a second. Try replacing your anger with pity. Not only for Randy, but for David Miscavige on down. After all, he was just a boy when Hubbard got ahold of him. He knows nothing else.

I am only here because I had some life outside of Scientology as a young man. Where, for a short time, I held an idea of freedom as you do now. And no matter how hard they tried, they couldn't take that away from me all together. And I never forgot how good it felt to be free.

The truth is that I'M the lucky one. I mean, I could be on the RPF right now!

Randy doesn't see the cult for what it is because, on the day he found Scientology, the church was not exposed like they are today. The same is true for my late uncle Bob. And my parents. I love them for who they are, and not for who they aren't.

But pity them all.

And take a stand for what's right in this world. Be it against evil in a company, government, courtroom, religion, school, hospital, household... or anywhere else it exists.

If Randy wants to take a stand against lobotomies and shock-treatment, then I would support his choice to fight those cruel methods against non-violent patients. But I hope he realizes that the wrongs of one group, doesn't justify the atrocities committed by another.

Just as I hope the people of America don't justify the evils of an efficient company, in despising the ineffective state of our government. And vice-versa.

What I have realized in these past few days of inner peace, is that we cannot find that peace without truth. Truth to each other and truth to ourselves.

When we say that the truth shall set us free, I would argue that...

it is the only thing that can.

The funny thing is that most Scientologists think that lobotomies and shock therapies are regular parts of psychiatric care. They are not, and what's more even a five minute trip to Wikipedia will tell you as much.

Lobotomies were only really popular from the late 1930s to the late 1950s, and virtually disappeared from treatment after doctors began to realize that although they did calm patients down and helped some people, their long-term side effects were highly unpredictable, and that newer medications were much more effective.

Shock therapies have always been last-ditch efforts. They are used when patients don't respond to anything else, from therapy to medication. I know personally of people with major-league depression that didn't respond to anything else. Also, today electroconvulsive therapy is done after putting the patient to sleep, unlike how it was done back in (again) the 1930-1960 period when it saw it's major use. There is no pain involved and patients don't have any recollection of the therapy.

This is a recurring theme among Scientologists - they are stuck in a time warp. Hubbard wrote most of his truly influential stuff in that time period, and since his words are canon to Scientologists, they don't really know how to deal with the world except through a 1950s lens. Everything from information dissemination to dealing with the media to how to organize the workplace....all built on vastly outdated methods Hubbard cribbed from a variety of sources in the 50s.

That's why I think the internet will eventually kill this monster - there is nothing in the doctrine that tells Scientologists how to deal with a world that includes such an information network.

Wow... I've always heard a lot of crazy things about scientology... but I never knew it had such a solid infrastructure and following. Sounds like a complete mind fuck for those in it. Props on getting out from under all that.

i live close by the san jcainto place(about 20 min).

that place is really interesting to me,looks like a castle.has a big ship in it too.tons of fucking cameras.and the wierdest thing......on tuesdays,theres a big dirt lot hidden behind it were at least 2-3hundred police officers meet up.i have no clue what they do,but its like clockwork.

i know this because i am a union carpenter,i was sent to do a job in that area.as i was looking for the job(about a half mile away)and stopped to phone my office for directions. a security guard and a tow truck.very nice guy,but overly nice,in an uncomfortable way.i asked what the tow truck was for? the guard said they would tow me anywhere i needed free of charge.when i told him i was just stopping to get directions,he got back in his car,and the guard and the tow truck followed me till i was about a half mile away.all i can say is was a really uncomfortable feeling....just real wierd. so while i was working on this job close to there i would drive by the place on the way home.thats when i noticed the cops,cameras,no windows...i mean the only people i ever saw around the place were the the landscapers.

this has really sparked my curiosity,got any more shit on this.

Just worried for you bro. Ive been reading alot of the links on this thread and there seems to be a real sinister side to alot of the way scientology deals with its "enemies".

Obviously you wouldnt want to hurt someone you know, but seriously, if you think any of the punks who tried to show up at your work or whatever would try to hurt you, at least consider your options. Sucks that they've been stalking you, that shit would freak me out plenty.

But then again, they might be trying to bait you, so who knows. Obviously, use your best judgment, and try to remove yourself from any threatening situation ASAP. Force should be a last resort, obviously, but if its between me and them, i'd end the threat with extreme prejudice.

Good luck with moving on with your life. I come from a religiously interesting backround myself, so I can sympathize with you alot.

props and thanks to you will, i will be keeping an eye on this. as an information junkie ive been privy to most of this for quite some time (the internet is a beautiful thing)

its a shame this got dumped, but the posting youve done elsewhere should give you the lifelines you need for the time being.

a victory for anon here would really be a victory for us all and it seems like people are starting to see that. the veil is being lifted.
